Nielsen investigates three encoding irregularities in HOU

Here is a tidbit from today's bulletin to subscribers (agencies and stations).

Can any of our Houston site users check those stations and verify the question "Simulcast or Not" as of today?

We’ve discussed this before many times on the Houston board, but once again:

K258BZ (Power 99.5) and K283CH (La Mejor 104.5) DO NOT have originating stations.

KSEV 700 and KGBC 1540 are a simulcast of the same conservative talk format.

KSEV and KGBC DO NOT have FM simulcasts on any translator.

KJOZ 880 has been off the air the past few weeks. When it was last on, it was originating K291CE (Puro Tejano 106.1).

What Nielsen has discovered is exactly what I have posted about in the past. Maybe I should pick up a little retirement income as a consultant to them.🤣

Edit to add: K291CE continues with the Tejano format despite KJOZ being off the air. No other originating station.

A lot of that is at odds with what the official records say (per FCCdata.org) ...

K283CH is listed as translating KJOZ. K258BZ is listed as KEYH's translator. KGBC has a translator listed (K233CW) at 94.5 ... it sounds like their filings with the FCC aren't up to date either.

This is Houston, the Wild Wild West of translator operations. We’ve discussed these things endlessly on this board. Why do you think we still have the Frank Berry sticky at the top of the board after two and a half years?
K283CH is listed as translating KJOZ.
NOPE. K283CH has no originating station.
K258BZ is listed as KEYH's translator.
NOPE. KEYH originates the Radio Vision Latina programming on K287BQ 105.3.
KGBC has a translator listed (K233CW) at 94.5 .
You probably mean K223CW on 92.5, which is currently running a Regional Mexican format called La Invasora. No originating station.
.. it sounds like their filings with the FCC aren't up to date either.
Welcome to reality.🤪🤪🤪 This sort of stuff has been going on for years.

Because they don't exist. The Nielsen notice was basically their way of saying "these stations were fraudulently misrepresenting who they were, but because we want their money we're going to just acknowledge it but look the other way"
And no one has filed complaints yet? I could foresee several NAVs here.
Who's to say they haven't? I know people at multiple companies who have attempted to

Which is probably the only action they can take, not having actual standing to file a complaint.

Speaking of which ...

I know people at multiple companies who have attempted to

I think I'm glad I don't live in Texas.

I sent in a complaint years ago and attached an unlisted YouTube video with K231CN interfering with K231DA from within the 45 dBu contour all the way into K231DA’s 60 dBu contour. At the time K231CN was originating programming but continues to interfere to this day unfortunately. If the coverage maps for K231CN were accurate this would not happen.

And to add to this KJOZ was only briefly Puro Tejano before going off the air. The last time they were running a translator’s programming was around Christmas when 92.5 was playing Christmas music after ESPN. KJOZ for awhile was mostly running the Latino Sport format which was never on FM.

Just need to send in a complaint to fcc. Who has the link for fcc complaint?
I would do a complaint in a minute but i got nothing to complain about 🤣.

I know that's sarcasm, but the form to do so is -- amazingly enough -- on the FCC website.

What I question is there that much Hispanic Agency money in Houston after the Six or Seven Hispanic stations with at least 1.0 or better 6+ get their buys?
It's not agency money those scofflaws are after... it is low budget local direct "neighborhood" services and retailers.

It's really only Houston, K.M. That šŸ’© doesn't fly up here, given the quick responses to any legitimately lodged complaints to the FCC Dallas field office. The last time that this outfit "performed any irregularities" in north Texas was with K295BF. Licensed to Royse City, east of Dallas, there was a time where they were blatantly stepping all over KRVF in Corsicana. Giving hell to the first adjacent at 107.1 in Sulphur Springs, too. Anger ensued, complaints were filed, measurements taken, and the facility got slapped with a $25,000 fine. No one's heard a peep from that 106.9 FM, outside of it's own legally-licensed contour, since.

They're, and I say they're because they are all in kahoots, or have been so in the past, attempting to acquire KAND in Corsicana now, which is the only AM in town. If course, it has a translator, which will start to hop it's way to Cedar Hill, or in close proximity, before the ink dries on the completed deal I will note that the 🐸 is wrong on one thing, and that the Berry Sticky is in direct correlation to the same individual who is listed as the engineer of record on the recent KAND applications being filed. He's also the individual who provided middleman services for the KEYH deal to extract ithe license from Liberman/Mediacom/whatever, and placed it in the lap of Hector Guevara, as one of his many owned or associated stations operating along the Gulf Coast.

It sure does seem to be taking time to get that KAND deal closed, doesn't it?
