Nightmare on Oxford St.

Doug Palmeri and his wife.
I heard B101 people too.
Ion the comic ain't laughing.
November and December are AXE months at Getto Plex.
Big changes in Jan.
Ion.

I thought it was too quiet in here other than the De Petro talk. The sound of crickets is usually followed by the sound of a shoe dropping. Is the Coast morning bunch still intact?

Was strange how Arlene Violet did the 1st hour of her show then Jen Brien took over. Weird!!!
They're insane if they don't hang onto Helen Glover and if they let DePetro slip through their hands.
They let Helen Glover go I'll bet WPRO scoops her up in a minute.

and by the first of the year, the only local talk station will be WPRO.
Jim Corwin is the stupidest [EDIT] on Earth.
He killed WHJJ.

Joan Edwardsen and her husband are out as well.

Brian and Jessica are doing the morning show and they haven't even gotten an intern in there to provide a laugh track.I'm sure it's temporary.Song-bit-jingle-spot-spot-spot.Song-bit-jingle-spot-spot-spot.It's the same act you'd hear on KKB or FNX without the jingles which is why that show started getting misdirected three years ago.Joan may have needed help but she knew the audience. This is like the final Mary Tyler Moore Show episode when everyone but Ted Baxter got fired.

Arlene attended a talk at Roger Williams that started at 5:30. Shake-ups are always nerve wracking - where ever they occur, no? :'(

The "new direction" spin is in today's Projo. Ever notice when other companies announce layoffs to the public they usually attribute it to cost cutting moves? When radio does it it's always a new direction. Citadel may have white-washed Gary DeGraide's exit & attributed it to his own decision but Gary did have other plans due to his faith. Still there was a smooth transition to David Jones that Gary himself took part in.

Then at the plex:
Cruisin Bruce & Big John: new direction
David Jones: new direction
Joan & Chuck: new direction

Lots of new directions here. Does Corwin need direction? I know I'm ranting & it isn't all Corwin. CC is doing this nationwide & naturally the cost cutting starts with the high earners. Maybe some people in radio are simply earning too much money. I can see waiting it out even if you know the end is coming within the next couple of years since you take home a good pay in the meantime & probably won't get another job earning the same but has anyone ever thought of posing pay cuts to the higher earning people? Since some (not all) are going to have a difficult time getting another local job or even a comparable job elsewhere earning the same, wouldn't some go for it?

Let's sing it together now...

WAKEEEE UPPPPP WITH WHOOOPI!!!

It's sad that our market is getting polluted by syndicated morning shows.

790/99.7 The Score: Opie and Anthony; (replacing Gresh & Zo, and eliminating Coach out of a job)

Coast 93.3: Wake Up with Whoopi (Eliminating 2/4 of the Coast Morning Crew...Jessica will stay in the position as she is promotions, I don't know about Brian though?)

Arlene went to hear David Jurgen, of the Kennedy School of Government speak at Roger Williams University, on Thursday evening.

Joan was on Ch 10 news tonight talking about it and the fact that with Clear Channel up for sale it looks better to have fewer salaries to pay. Big John Bina was on and put in a little mild zing about the same thing.

I saw that report at 5p on Channel 10. Talk about a non-story. It should've started off....

"A Providence disc jockey with terrible ratings was fired five years after she should've been".

Let's talk about what's going to happen to Jim Corwin in December and HJJ in January!

Lovefist you're one of the more coherent & knowledgeble sounding people on here but tonight you're being harsh. 5 years ago there was a Jones & Joan show & it never should have been messed with. CC was always satisfied with WSNE's performance back then & the station's numbers really haven't changed that much over the years. So what happened? AC audiences don't suddenly jump ship. Management messed with the station constantly. They caused this to happen & now people & even families are losing their jobs because of AEs who can't sell. This should not have been allowed to happen.

Runrigger - certainly I thank you for the nice compliments, I don't mean to come off harsh, so let me attempt to explain.

5 years ago David Jones was shown the door because he was the definition of "mailing it in". He was unprepared, frequently late and slurred his words like he was a homeless person. So saying that the morning show wasn't broken doesn't exactly ring true to me. Since then, the station has undergone numerous tweaks and changes with different PDs etc. and the numbers have suffered.

I do agree with your AE comment, but AE's can't sell what isn't there. The Coast AM show consistantly get's beaten by every other major station in the market. I think in the Spring they lost to CTK, HJY, B101, PRO, Lite and even EEI. (Person's 25-54). So if your Joe Salesperson, how do you sell that?

You have to admit that it just wasn't a good show. At this point, I don't know who's fault it even was, but it's ceratinly time to wipe the slate clean and start over. As far as your point regarding "families" being out of work... it's certainly not CC's fault that two married people decide to work in the same building in the same un-stable industry. If you both work in radio at a station like Coast and don't have $15,000 in the bank "just in case", then shame on you!

http://www.provequity.com/team.html

this is accross the clear channel world... they are getting rid of all of the fat in all markets cause they are selling and one of the companies in contention to buy out all clear channel radio is right here in prov...

get ready for more VTracking and syndication...
