NIIIIIIIIINNNEEE!!!! (-ty point three, Auburn!)

Sweet! WEOS's CP for 90.3 in Auburn was granted on Friday. Within minutes, I grabbed WVWA as the call letters...bringing a storied history to the Finger Lakes, indeed. ;D

In all honesty, I don't know if we're going to keep WVWA as the calls for Auburn. In a perfect world I'd like to get WAUB, so our calls match "WITH" for ITHaca...since 90.3 will be a full-time repeater for WITH (whenever we manage to get WITH built). But of course, WAUB is already taken.

BUT, I am highly inclined to do an April 1st launch of 90.3...probably in 2011...for a single day completely devoted to the "NINE!!!" format from the "original" WVWA, heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsHYp4k7fFw And yes, this is a shameless plug for submissions from radio aficionados towards that goal. Scott, I know I can count on you! :) Anyone else want in for a day of fan service to radio geeks everywhere?

Congratulations!

What made you chose WVWA for call letters!

Amazingly prescient, don'tcha think? Particularly the station ID buried way under the "wall of sound".

(echo chamber up... to 11)
And now, posted on YouTube for the eternal listening pleasure of everyone, everywhere, everyday!!!
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!!
(echo chamber out)

Loved the synchronization of the still images with the audio. An added touch that you can't get in Scott's office ;)

(Aside to Scott: I played it for Rosemary.)

Assuming I'm still in the area, and assuming I'm still a volunteer at the WEOS stations (as I certainly plan to be), you can count me in.
The question is, do I want to do an "airshift"? Or, would I be better off doing the ridiculously fast "WVWA Auburn" legal at TOH.
I guess it would depend on if I want to have any sort of voice to speak of the following day.

Mr. Fybush is all in for this, from what I've heard him say. :D

Now, who is going to portray Mr. Armstrong atop the WVWA tower? (That answer: "not me!")

:D

I'll have the tower rigger do something funny after he/she is done lugging the single panel antenna into place on top of the cellphone tower by the public safety building / police station north of downtown Auburn. :)

Actually, I am planning on canvassing the entire stock of NPR talent, like Carl Kasell, Nina Totenberg, Neal Conan, Ira Glass, etc etc etc and see how many of them are willing to do little shorts about it. A lot of them will be of the "I've been a professional journalist for 30 years and I've been reduced to this crap?!?" style of humor. Maybe I'll ask Robert Siegel to do a Christian Bale-ish screaming rant about it. ;D

But by no means will this day of stunting be limited to just that...I'm hoping to make this the avatar of all radio silliness that all us radio geeks have always wanted to do. So if you have ideas for anywhere between 5 minutes and 30-60 minutes of goofiness, draw up an outline and send it over to me! My e-mail is posted on the Contact page of www.weos.org

As for the NPR folks, we'll see what happens on that; I've got a lot of things to deal with at the moment, but at some point over the next few months I'll start talking with my NPR rep about seeing who wants to get in on the joke.

You've got plenty of time to get your streaming computers upgraded. :D

Oh, no! I meant that the traffic from all of us worldwide will overwhelm your servers!

LOL! Shame on you for listening on the web, I expect you all to drive out here to you can listen to that thunderous 1kHz audio bandwidth with the dial turned to 11. ;D

Ironically though, turns out yesterday something DID happen to our streaming computer; rebooted and decided it needed a password to come back up...which I didn't have because it's Public Interactive's computer. D'oh! Good thing I noticed at 4:50pm and not at 5:10pm!!! One call to tech support later the webcast was fine, though.

Considering my frequent Travels With Fybush(tm), it's probably likely that I'll be there with him, anyway. :D
