No Jason Wolfe magic at WRKO

Top 15 is absolutely awful for WRKO.

WRKO and WBCN should be up there with Jam'n 94.5 and Kiss 108 and WBZ. Those were the big powerful 5.

With the music market so fragmented, and with so many other choices for music outside of radio (Internet, Ipod, CD, cassette, etc. etc.), a "talk station" should
be able to clean up. They cannot and will not clean up when they talk down to the majority in this blue state.

They are ignored. If WBUR 90.9 FM showed up in the commercial Arbitrons it would simply obliterate WRKO, WTKK 96.9. When a dry and somewhat boring non-commercial station destroys a commercial station it speaks volumes.

Howie Carr is limping along and the only thing the station has to bring in numbers. Kind of like hoping that
Drew Bledsoe can carry the team with no star receivers long after his prime. It ain't going to happen. Drew is going to throw the ball to the enemy in the endzone he's trying to find. Carr is the poor man's Bledsoe fading fast into the sunset. But he doesn't have Terry Glenn or T.O.

Think about it - H.C. calls her a demeaning term like MUFFY, then throws Christy over for the flavor of the month. Luckily, we've got less than one month of this horse manure left to pollute the airwaves.

If only ratings would dictate new radio hosts the way election day removes bad commercials, but alas

WBUR has been in the Arbitrons all along, but only in the software. Soon they and the other non-coms will be listed in all ratings releases, including the 12+ beauty contest.

Howie not "limping along." He is tied for third in his target demo...but yes, his is the only show on the station doing that well. The "dry and somewhat boring" WBUR is a pretty consistent top-10 performer across virtually all dayparts and demos. Guess they're not all that boring, are they?

Hey, I listen to WBUR. I find them dry and boring, but I listen because they are better than the alternative!

We do have an intellectual Blue state here. For all the attacks on John Kerry that Howie makes re: upper class and speaking French, there are many in Massachusetts that don't find that a bad thing.

Howie plays to his audience - his "base" as Bush would say - and enjoys his regional fame. He would have a bigger audience if he would expand that base to include better programming. He doesn't care to.

Think about it - when a "V.B." is actually one of the better things on the air - as awful as he is - radio today is not giving much of a choice to the audience. Sirius & XM become mandatory. Yawning along with WBUR at least expands your vocabulary. Howie insulting a Mayor for diction IS the pot calling the kettle black. After years of the tedious joke gone bad, WBUR becomes an oasis!

What demoi do they claim to be their target? 55+?

I don't think that is a true statement.

They do not perform well across all dayparts and demos.

Thank you, Panago. That individual is just trying to bait and cause trouble; he's not even supposed to be posting in here. We can't post the ratings but it doesn't matter, 12+, men, women, the ratings across the board for that station are not what they used to be.

Listening to John DePetro for the first time in a long time this morning it is easy to see why. They had a woman named "karen" on around 10 AM ish - she was brilliant. What a great legal mind. She was obviously from
Deval Patrick's camp, but she did a wonderful job of shredding DePetro to pieces. JD can't take a steady diet of that, but it makes for good radio and keeps people that don't agree with the RKO ideology listening.

When DePetro said "And we've got the world premiere of the new Kerry Healey advertisement" (paraphrased) it was barf time. Really. That got me to switch back to Oldies 103.3 and hear something worth listening to.

How grating - wow - the new Kerry Healey Ad! Like an audience wants to hear advertisements from one political party.

The plant calls that are pro-Healey are really bothersome too. Who wants to hear this propaganda.

No wonder Howie Carr went off on David Scondras - finally - he had an opportunity to dump Muffy.

No, but that individual understands radio and doesn't confuse his always out in left field opinion with reality, and does not have an axe to grind against wrko, but still listens and posts about them everyday. Oh but I forgot this is your board and no one is allowed to disagree with you because if so they're attacking you and you'll threaten to sue everyone who has ever posted here. Why cant you just accept that virtually everyone has a different viewpoint than yours and that you are not always right?.

Moderators please not the baiting by Towerbuzz.

Published facts regarding the ratings - facts we can't fully print without authorization - are not my opinion.
WRKO and WBCN are weak and need a new approach, a fresh start. That's not rocket science, nor is it opinion. The ratings reflect it. You can disagree with how the ratings are established, but that's an argument for another time.

35-64.

I have actual ratings data to back up what I stated. What's your source?

Well you made a far reaching statement...and like most staments it does not hold up 100%

You said they perform consistantly in all demo's and dayparts.

Take a look at the "BBC Newhour"...ratings.

Take a look at "Fresh Air" and "Talk of the Nation".

WBUR does really well in drive-times thanks to the incredible product they get from NPr for those dayparts. ME and ATC are top notch. Midday numbers are not so great. Evenings are not so great. 18-34's are not so great.

I was ot baiting you I was disagreeing with you and I corrected you. Your only access is to the numbers that the general public sees, 12+. Those are not the numbers that tell the tale in terms of money or the listenership for any station. No station sells on their 12+ number so quoting them as proof of the station's overall failure is wrong, I dont mean morally, I mean factually. On the other hand you are right wrko and wbcn have both been struggling for years and are both in need of major changes but that argument doesn't mean much when you criticize every virtually every station mentioned on the board. LOL

Answer the question. What is your source?

Arbitron. Look at the hour by hours.

WBUR performs like a lot of information stations (like BZ) that do VERY well in drive times....but lag a little during middays and nights.

ATC and ME from NPR are fabulous programs...and do very well.

TOTN, FA, BBC OP do not draw as well.

(I don't know if we can fully credit WBUR for those programs.....as they simply carry them. Although it remains onme of my favorite stations.)

I can only take 'BUR in small doses, except on weekends. Their weekend mix is great, 'cept for the occasional begging for money.
