What baffles me is how Seattle-Tacoma doesn't have at least 1 mainstream current Hip/Hop & R&B outlet? Omaha freaking Nebraska has had one for a long time. How is there not the revenue there to support it in Seattle?!?!

Was it lack of numbers, sales or both as a result?
Except for sports.Lack of numbers leads to lack of sales.
For a second, I thought that read, "Life is a long-term prank...except for sports"!Except for sports.
I listened to KNWN crystal clear from Seattle up through Bellingham two days ago. Reception was excellent and 1000 was easily listenable (without excess static). It’s not FM, and listeners may elect not to listen if they don’t realize where KNWN is located on the dial, but I don’t really see reception as being a massive problem. The amount of RFI on AM has increased massively in the past 20 years. KNWN-AM probably isn't as listenable as you think, especially in places like Everett. Plus the fact that engine noise is another factor and some cars (EVs, but even some regular ICE vehicles) have NO AM in them...makes me wonder why 101.5 didn't just go to KNWN.
Also: Ask the Average Joe, age 35 (born in 1989)...do they even know what AM radio is? Or if they do, they probably think it's where all the right-wing talkers are. (Somewhat right, i.e. KTTH, KVI)
When I’m in the Bay Area, I usually listen to KCBS on 740. Of course, 106.9 sounds great in San Francisco, but many of the outlying areas get a strong and reliable signal from 740. San Francisco is a rare area where AM does work better, even if the popularity of AM is bottoming out.Likewise, KCBS is immensely popular in San Francisco. How much of the population listens on FM 106.9?
Probably true, and that is part of the problem with the AAA KPNW. If you're going to launch a new format, and part of your target is those who either are a) older demos who already drifted to Spotify and Pandora for their AAA fix after radio dumped it, or b) younger demos who don't "tune around on the FM band to see what's new", you're going to have to do something like advertise.I hear talk on here about tech bro's? Other than those with girl friends, I doubt they even know radio exists.
