NO MORE MISTER ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD ON TELEVISION???

Part of the problem with the new shows on PBS is they are way too PC. The kids in the shows are far too polite. The kids always solve problems as an adult would. While this is a good example, it's not relevant.

Arthur is an entertaining show but it's written as an ADULT remembering his childhood would write it. Like Peanuts by Charles Schulz, kids don't feel with the angst as he wrote it. Same as shows like Arthur, Martha Speaks, Maya and Miguel and the others.

And they are way too PC to reflect the real world.

Yes they are all crap.........

I used to love sesame street and i still would IF IT WAS LIKE IT WAS IN THE 80s!!!!!!

Nothing but crap on TV these days and its sickening... Kids today have NO CLUE what good quality is.......

After reading this, I had a childhood flashback of our next door cranky ole man neighbor.
(yelling over the fence) "You kids, down that crap rock n roll Beatle music down, and stay off my lawn!!!" ;D
You kids today...............................................

The constant "everything today is garbage" silliness reminds me of a classic song:

Kids!
I don't know what's wrong with these kids today!
Kids!
Who can understand anything they say?
Kids!
They a disobedient, disrespectful oafs!
Noisy, crazy, dirty, lazy, loafers!
While we're on the subject:
Kids!
You can talk and talk till your face is blue!
Kids!
But they still just do what they want to do!
Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids today?
Kids!
I've tried to raise him the best I could
Kids! Kids!
Laughing, singing, dancing, grinning, morons!
And while we're on the subject!
Kids! They are just impossible to control!
Kids! With their awful clothes and their rock an' roll!
Why can't they dance like we did
What's wrong with Sammy Caine?
What's the matter with kids today!

Not to pick on The Dude, but that's his consistent theme lately. My response on another thread was to list some of the excellent current TV dramas and comedies (mostly from basic and pay cable) that you never would have found on TV twenty, or even fifteen years ago. Then I compared to one of those Classic TV board programming lists from the late 70s that people like to post - full of hokey and badly written and cheaply produced shows we'd all laugh at these days - Bionic Woman, The Rookies, and so forth.

In general, TV is immensely better now, in my opinion. is there still crap on TV these days? Of course, and there always will be. It's just silly to get all worked up and angry about something you don't like - reality shows (I hate them, too), shows with "offensive" content (sex, nudity, or whatever), or shows that reflect what you consider to be the "wrong values" - when you can change the channel and easily find something else to watch. When I can't find a drama or comedy I want to watch, I'll put on Discovery, or the History Channel. I usually find something worth watching. If I can't, I turn the TV off.

It bugs me when people want shows removed from TV because find them objectionable. There are plenty of choices for all of us. If other people want to relax watching something I don't like, that's OK with me - I have a couple hundred other channels to choose from.

My youngest child is past kiddie-show age now, and into the Disney Channel - so I'll admit I'm not current on kids TV (though I'm quite aware of those "tween" shows now). But I remember watching Sesame Street and Mister Rogers in the late 70s and early 90s with my younger kids. Those shows were always very "politically correct." If they are politically correct in a slightly different way now, it's because the values of society (and TV writers and producers, obviously) have evolved somewhat.

That's not a problem IMO, as the primary objective of PBS is to educate. Entertainment is merely the vehicle that delivers the education. So, if you want to teach children to be polite, you show them polite children. If you want to teach children the adult way of solving a problem, you present to them kids solving problems as adults would. In the process, you create relevance for the children.

Because that is the objective of PBS, it is also why some parents are hypersensitive about the messages sent on PBS shows. No parent wants his or her values undermined.

Sesame Street in the 80's was CRAP, compared to the ORIGINAL Sesame Street in the late 60's and early 70's! Way back then, Sesame Street actually confronted "adult" issues like discrimination, racism, and death. It was very progressive for its time.
