They also gave us Republican Senators Edward Brooke and Henry Cabot Lodge.

We report; you decide.

You're right! I did overlook them.

But I also forget in which years each ran for President. Can you enlighten?

HCL was Nixon's running mate in '60.

I don't know about Brooke. I'd say never.

Ah! But always a bridesmade, never a bride. So Lodge was not a Massachusetts gift to the presidential sweepstakes.

I never believed he was ever a presidential candidate but was prepared to yield to superior knowledge.

But....

I know Lodge never did talk radio. In fact, I don't believe it had been invented while he was alive.

Did not, however, Edward Brooke make a small forray into hosting a talk show? Does anybody here remember if that were so and, if he did, what level of success might it have enjoyed?

Don't know about Brooke ... but HCL Jr. died in '85.

I listened to LOCAL talk radio on WKAT in the 60s and 70s.

And I think Shep was around during the 50s. So it had been "invented."

Yes, but in the 1950's there was this Brahmin Class that listened only to Fine Music (FM) radio. HCL was definitely of that class.

"Here's to dear old Boston,
home to the bean and the cod,
where Lowells speak only to Cabots
and Cabots speak only to God."

I do know what FM really means...but in the 1950's there were many of the upper class who had no clue about "frequency modulation". They only knew that if they bought an FM radio (priced well beyond the means of the great unwashed) that they could enjoy "Fine Music" (read "classical").

If you have no stake in this, and can read from an arbitrary point of view, Joe mostly criticizes, but does not attack.

Either you're quite a bit behind in your reading or you should look up the meaning of attack.

He is violating the rules of this board with every posting while most of us try to be civilized.

Joe is vicious and obnoxious. I can't imagine that you hadn't noticed this.

Please try to pay attention!

Maybe the trouble is the "arbitrary point of view" you mentioned.

Arbitrary and extremely biased, as mentioned by several folks.

A neutral point of view would be preferable.

Try it, we'll like it.

Thank you.

One more thing... and please note well that the following is NOT a personal attack...

The moderator decision to send Var and Brooklyn to the OTA board to carry on their
fight was definitely the stupidest, most bone-headed, irresponsible, and moronic
moderating decision I have seen in 2 1/2 years on R-I. Now Var is trashing two
boards with his attacks and abuse instead of just this one.

It's a great disappointment when the moderator can't discern the difference
between what is inappropriate on one board and what is against the rules
of the whole R-I site.

Thanks a lot for the excellent highly professional moderation.
