No More Real Talk 1160

Very true, I am also going to miss the discussion and did appreciate jry responding to questions brought up about 1160 on the board. I am wondering what is being tweaked and repaired during the month long downtime at the transmitter site? Were any problems found?

My only regrets is that we didn't give a little tip of the hat to the oldies 1160 format by signing off with Simon and Grafunkels "Sound of Silence"
Thanks again for the kind words, folks. I'll always check in and give my two cents. Worth every penny.

No problems, as such. I've always had this thought that the T Networks weren't totally matched. We had replaced a big part of the pattern switching system a while back. We'll check the bandwidth and match on everything. 50 Ohms, 0 J type stuff. Things you cannot do while on the air and a drag to do at night. The processing and transmitters are all good. 1050 is getting the same treatment.

I was away in Florida on business all week and when I returned to the Cinci-Northern KY airport this afternoon at 4 PM, I tuned my car radio to 1160....fully aware Real Talk was gone. I was a little surprised to hear WYLL from Chicago coming in like gangbusters just a few miles from the "late Real Talk's" Transmitter site!

Once WYLL switches to their night time site they are much weaker. I don't hear anything on 1170 or 1150. I wonder if they could move down 10khz? I can remember when when they were daytime only on 1180 because of WHAM being 50kw.

I'm betting both of those options have been considered.

1150 is probably not an option, with stations in Lima OH & Mt. Sterling KY.

Taking into consideration all locals, regionals, and adjacent frequencies, Cincinnati has few if any options.

You win the bet!
I had Munn Reese do a full work up of where we could go. We checked 30Khz up and down. no place to go. One station that has us really tight to the north is the CC station in Lima (WIMA 1150).
BTW, the WYLL night site near Joliet (did a visit there to take measurements of their night pattern) is licensed as their daytime AUX site. It is interesting to note that at 16KW, the pattern from that site is a close match to the 50KW daytime site in Des Plaines. Rumor is that a couple of tweaks and they'll be on the Joliet site, 24/7. The Des Plaines site is worth a mint. That change would fix the critical hours interference WQRT receives from WYLL. With WQRT off, we were able to do measurements n the area. WYLL was non existent. We will check the night and do some critical hours measurements as well.
