Glenn Beck dropped by New York's WOR radio station over poor ratings.
MikefromDelaware said:You guys all bring up good points as to what folks really liked about not just Beck, but Rush too. Both can be funny and entertaining. Maybe talk radio is now ready for the next new thing, someone new and younger as radio ad execs want to appeal the a younger demo anyhow, doing what Beck and Rush did back in the earlier days when they were the young turks. They both are so tarred as such over the top GOP partisans now, it may be too late for them to pull others into hear their shows.
Would some stand up comedian be able to clean up their act for radio and have enough interesting stuff to say using their ability to entertain to become the next great thing in Talk Radio? Sort of the radio version of a Jay Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc, who'd have interesting, entertaining, funny, stuff to say, yet could mix it up with callers. If so, who would you suggest?
I realize most of you can't get WDEL at www.wdel.com/ , but you can listen online. Next week, try listening to Al Messitti from 9am -12noon. He's a former reporter/columnist for the News Journal, but has an interesting show. I don't agree with all he says, but he's very entertaining and informative. What about a national show similar to how Al does his show?
Or for those with a half decent HD radio lying around, WDEL is receivable in the Philly area on WSTW-HD3.MikefromDelaware said:I realize most of you can't get WDEL at www.wdel.com/ , but you can listen online. MikefromDelaware said:I was talking to one of the news reporters in the WDEL newsroom a couple of weeks ago, and they said that the WDEL had put the 10K upgrade on hold, for now, due to the economy. Delmarva did do the upgrades to the WSTW tower though, from what she said.
Dan said:The most vulnerable CC station right now is Radio 104.5
I wonder what this station is billing because the commercial breaks are awfully short. Nevertheless, I highly doubt we will see "Rush Radio 104.5" or any sort of FM talker with Beck/Hannity on 104.5 (or even 106.1 for that matter).
