None of you KISSing Up??

Ya mean after all yer' chatter about the plusses and minuses of KISS ... they announce a new PD and you're all stunned into silence?

Disclaimer: This interruption was meant to be brief and initiate new topic discussion. We now return you to the market board whining, moaning and name-calling ..... already in progress.

You got that right Little Boy!

I had mentioned a while ago that there's going to be a major changes at this station....sorry to hear Marcus's getting the boot back down a notch, but this is a very tough business and it's absolutely unfair, especially to good people at times. I see this move as a "CYA" by management, but it may result in some improvement in the next book-who knows. The bottom line for this station is that numbers are down and lower still over the past 4 book....upper management isn't going to sit around anymore so there's more changes likely to come. Too bad the big boys in the management don't see that the BIGGER KBKS problem is much deeper than just the PD's office. Time will tell if they figure this one out.....

I think Marcus and Rob Walker are having dinner somewhere asking...
"Wha' Happend"

That's gotta be hard for the ol ego to take being demoted.
What does that do for old PMD guy that Marcus brought in Taylor or whatever...is he the new night guy now

Steve Rivers is a legend and I think most of the sidesaddle broadcasters in town are stunned that Infinity made this kind of expensive move. Rivers will clean house, tighten
the music and turn KBKS around in less than a year. His record in CHR is legendary. He stumbled some with other formats, but he is a rock solid CHR cowboy. There has been
a blind box for mornings in the Northwest with an LA address for some time, now I know why. MOVIN worked because KBKS was sooooo off. No longer. CHR dominates in many markets and Steve Rivers built a lot of those CHR stations. I like Marcus and some of the talent at KBKS, but Rivers works with his people and top tier and is VERY demanding. If I were J@B, Marcus or any of the other air-talent at KBKS, I would be kissin up a whoollleeee lot. YOu are about to see change. MOVIN, KUBE and KPLZ are about to get a big surprise too. This will be fun to watch. Finally a major market CHR in Seattle with real talent and solid music. Yeeehaawwww.

Who will be hurt the most if KBKS doubles or triples in ratings. MOVIN is first up, KUBE, KPLZ and KNDD will all feel the pain. Even WOLF might lose 18-34 numbers to a good CHR. This market hasn't had one in such a long time.

Steve Rivers is gonna shake it up!! This is one SUPERB PD. If he has just a fraction of success that he had with the KISS
stations in Boston or Los Angeles....then KBKS is about to begin a glorious time in its history!!

So what will Rivers change first? Will he bring in a new morning show? Will he leave the staff and adjust music and other elements? What does he change first. I have heard he completely rebuilds stations from top to bottom, is that the case? For once, the sales guy really has no clue.

Highly likely things will be shaken up. Even with Rivers' personal history with Seattle, you don't hire Steve Rivers to just make a few adjustments in music scheduling software. The music right now isn't far off. Some philosophy changes spurring some rotation changes will likely happen.

Staff changes are highly likely as well. I wouldn't be surprised if some nationally-known name is brought into Seattle.

What the station really needs is a morale boost. Someone to set the station thinking and moving in the right direction. Rivers is definitely the man to do that. Once that's all achieved, I wouldn't be surprised if another PD is named in about 18-24 months.

Keep in mind last time Riv was consulting KBKS they were doing consistently well. He left .. and things took a step backward not too long after that (not that he's responsible for all things good or bad ... just that there IS history of his expertise being applied to the right dials and gizmos to make the machine purr a little bit better).

poor marcus d...seriously, how do you go back to doing the EXACT same job you were doing before after you were the man in charge? good move for kiss though to shift tyler to nights since he owned nights in charlotte. big step up from keola and a solid talent in the evening. but damn that must be a payroll! paying your pm-drive/apd a PD wage, paying your night jock a pm-drive wage, paying your morning show WAY more than they would ever deserve. good luck to CBS and Professor Rivers!
