Not coming back

I guess I'm with the mainstream on these, with one exception. I either never watched any shows on that list, or saw them once or twice, and never returned.

The one exception was Vegas - not a perfect show by any means, but cleverly written and well acted by Michael Chiklis and Dennis Quaid. The producers were not as careful about period details (it took place in the early 60s) as Mad Men, but they did a decent job with the architecture and styles of the times.

Vegas has been cancelled ! *$()@*!)#$

I liked that show.

I might not have been a fan of that particular show, but I thought moving it to a new time slot might have helped.
They tried Friday instead of Tuesday. No dice.

Vegas showed promise, but the universe of characters was too narrow. The casino/mob characters didn't need to be on every week. That's why gave up on it.

Moving Vegas to Friday (a less-watched evening) hurt the show and CBS made their disinterest in the show clear at that point. I was happy to see the show that replaced Vegas on Tuesday was also killed (good riddance).

The premise was good. Some great characters. The show was too serialized for its own good and would have done better with episodes that could stand alone. There was also some "moralizing," in which social issues extraneous to the basic plot were introduced for no apparent reason other than to let writers show how much more "enlightened" we are today.

Michael Chiklis is a great actor (Vic Mackey, The Thing and Curly Howard). Sarah Jones is super hot. They will be back.

I didn't even know it had moved to Friday - I DVRed the show. I just watched the season (series) finale, which I was disappointed in. There was a lot of silly moralizing, as mentioned above - it was almost as if the script was written in the early 60s when the show takes place. On top of that, Quaid was chewing the scenery (Chiklis was still great) and the entire plot was wrapped up too neatly and not realistically.

Overall - an uneven but decent show, and I'll miss it.

You're right - Chiklis and Sarah Jones will be back.

I wanted to watch "Vegas" but I had two shows on at that time already. Even when they moved it, I had already missed it too many times to start. I wish "No Ordinary Family" could return.

I'm disappointed about "Malibu Country" because I really enjoyed it.

I was glad "Body of Proof" came back because I hadn't expected it to, but it's a disappointment to me that one's gone.

batting a thousand

Man, I'm batting a thousand here:
The only over-the-air series I watched this year were Malibu Country, Smash and Vegas. I liked it when Vegas was moved to Fridays--it seemed to have the right "feel" for that night. I don't know if "Mr. Selfridge" on Masterpiece and Anne of Green Gables on PBS count.

I am officially an old lady. I had to upgrade my cable package last summer, so I could watch Heartland, Dr. Quinn, The Waltons and Hallmark movies. Not even basic cable was offering anything I wanted any more.
