Not so SUNNY

OK, I've given it almost 6 months and can't take it anymore. 105.9 has nothing I'm looking for in a classic hits station ... boring talent, lame imaging, questionable music flow. It sure isn't BIG or COOL ... more like a watered down MIX that throws in a 70s song every 3rd tune. The weak imitation of Fat Albert for the "voice" of the station kills me --- there are hundreds of better pipes available to set the tone of the station. No individual personality stands out as someone I "gotta hear" -- morning is weak, mid-day is weak, BB is just another re-tread. Fortunately in Brevard we've got 98.5 the Beach; voice tracked part of the time but always professional, good flow and a ton more variety. 105.9 no longer deserves a pre-set in my car or home. Goodbye Sunny.

as much as i hate to say it, i some what agree. no real variety anymore. i will admit when it first came on it was great but you hear no real "oh wow" songs. i mean if people like it great but i have gone back to my ipod and fm transmitter now. sunny has gotten to me... i keep an eye on what they play but nothing i have not heard on there before. wonder how long this will last? maybe cbs may put a real cool on here in orlando? we need one. no oldies here anymore ever since 810 flipped to that religious crap....

hahahahahahahahaha, bring back O-Rock. Smooth move CBS, yeah a real ratings winner. can you say boooooooring?

IF they switch it back to O Rock they can kill Wjrr in rating if they do it right.... IF they bring back Orock and bring in pat and taco or even BS as there morring show or hell both of em. as morring and after noon.. They could completely wipe Wjrr off the map...

Some of us never did think 105.9 amounted to very much!

1. Its a "background" station. Nothing about it stands out and grabs you and makes you want to listen.

2. The people on the air sound like a bunch of kids...no exceptional talent.

3. The people on the air are obviously reading a prepared script rather than being permitted to use their own personality.

4. The STUPID practice of using a very heavily edited (electronically) prize disclaimer on the air.

5. Short playlist which excludes many real oldies.

All these things I lay exclusively on the shoulders of management and ownership. 105.9 is just another example of swallowing hook, line and sinker what some "consultant" says.

There is no doubt radio is circling the drain. The blame is not on the hard working staff members but the management and ownership!

i'd love orock back in this town but it has to be done the right way. and i don't think pat and taco or the b.s will come to 1059. that would be cool but vary unlikely :(. But it will be interesting to see what happens to 1059. I hope they don't waste that good signal. one of the most powerfull stations in this market so hopefully it will represent it well.

Something that I do not like about Sunny is how they handle the playlist...

You will hear a good 70's tune, like "Bakerstreet" from Gerry Rafferty and then they will play the four seasons or the Supremes after it.....

I do not think that works well...

sunny blows, I can hear all that crap and those trainwrecks on my iPod, no thanks

What they need to do is group the songs together; for example, play a few 70s songs, then play a few 60s songs, then 80s, etc. It would flow much better.

I don't work there, but I think the list is set up under the old Top 40 theory: never play two of the same type/era of song back-to-back. Therory being that you may not like "Baker Street," but you'll stick around to hear the Supremes (or vice versa). If you group three or four similar types/era together and someone doesn't like that type or era, you've blown a whole quarter-hour of possible ratings.

Having said that, you have to break up possible train wrecks with jingles, sweepers or stop sets. And dissimilar doesn't mean "train wreck."

agreed...try grouping 3 or 4 disco songs together and see if the audience is still there...

I used to listen to this station when it first came on the air, but now whenever I tune in , I just hear a bunch of people talking at the same time. The worst is when they have that guy on called "Drunky The Bear".....

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT CRAP!!!!!!

It is also bad when they have the head host talking, and you hear that 16-year old girl talk over him...

TERRIBLE!!!!!

I also hate it when they have that Larry The Cable Guy Rip Off Guy talk.....

That is why I do not listen to Sunny anymore...

Oh, hang on, I'M SORRY!!!!!!

I mean, THAT IS WHY I DO NOT LISTEN TO WTKS ANYMORE!!!!!!

all i can say is hahahahahahhahahah. i have no idea what is with 105.9. ever since 2006 or so it has all been down hill for them. i wished i could have the old orock back. it was good untill 2006 or so. the only thing i hated about orock is when they played that emo shit. oh well. we will just wait and see.
so i will watch the saga of 105.9. I wished they sounded like wcbs in ny. that would be excelent. and they even get there radio legends back on air... oh well. that's orlando radio for you :(.

Dixon and Willoughby

got a question about HTQ's morning show...they've been in Orlando for about a year now, what is the consensus?

i was reading on the north florida bored and someone said that it would be funny is sunny made it in to the st augustine books. with all the shit radio in jax i bet it will. I think sunny may get better over time. maybe the people there will figure it out and add more songs to the playlist... prob not but it was a nice thought. we wil see how it goes for 105.9.

i have to point out that i think 105.9 has one of the most powerful signals in the market. i've heard it from southern jacksonville to felsmear but a weak signal there so i would say anywhere south of palm bay sunny is done. pretty damn good reach. and i think 102 jamz is not far behind in terms of a powerful signal right up there with wcfb...

Mix 105.1 has already established themselves on Fridays as "Friday Night 80's". I like to tune in every once in a while. I did notice that Mix has added some new songs recently. They call themselves "upbeat" when they play "Bleeding Love".

Sunny 105.9 has lost my interest, too. Some of the 70's music is too obscure for me, but 60's seem to be more known because my Dad used to listen to 50's & 60's Oldies radio all the time when I was a kid in the 80's. That's the only time I stay tuned.

Weird, huh? There seems to be an unrecognized musical gap with a kid from the "Nintendo" & "Yo! Raps" generation, so Sunny was never on my presets except for that first week of excitement back in January. I wouldn't mind listening to Bill Drake's "History of Rock & Roll" again. I like that mix of music better, & I'm in my late-20's.

i stopped listening to sunny a few months ago. i know some businesses have it on but overall that are the only people i know that listen to it. hell i have gone back to wmmo. they have a way bigger variety than sunny. sunny is like a cross between wmmo and mix and disco thrown in... it was good for a month but then all the same songs started to come on over and over again... i have no idea how sunny is now but i imagine the same.

If they did that, it would basically end up like WMMO... only exception is that WMMO plays more currents.

I always thought that Sunny was more like a DJ at a wedding. The bulk of their songs are taken from WMMO, along with some R&B and disco songs. That's pretty much it. They play songs that you would find at a dance, a wedding, or any sort of family celebration... that's pretty much it.

It's not to say those songs aren't good. They just shouldn't be rotating every single day/week or whatever. It's just a quick caffeine fix to catch the audience's attention. Of course, after a while, you become immune to the "caffeine high" and you go back to flipping.
