Not so SUNNY

DJ Mo said:
Mix 105.1 has already established themselves on Fridays as "Friday Night 80's". I like to tune in every once in a while. I did notice that Mix has added some new songs recently. They call themselves "upbeat" when they play "Bleeding Love".

I heard one of those new "upbeat" sweepers the other day. After playing it they went into Angel by Sarah McLachlan. Now that's what I call upbeat ;D

It may sound good to you, but look at the pathetic ratings. O-rock was and is better............

What I can't take are the people whining about the dentist lifting them off the chair, and the crazy woman who says the shower has seen her naked and is talking to the toaster.

They should kill sunny and change the format to an all comedy format...

Funny 105.9....

That would kick ass...

Now that's Sunny, er I mean Funny!!!!
Long live Baxter and Mark, Greg Morgan, Slatz, Mick Dolans, etc.....

The new trends released today, have Sunny climbing. The new format has more than doubled the format of old, and has moved past WMMO. Its working!

What's working, still crap/mediocore ratings. The petals have fallen from the rose bush, don't get all excited, try to contain yourself. One trend does not a book make.

blah blah blah...blah blah blah...blah blah blah...

crappy ratings? well i only see the 12+ on allaccess.com, and not to beat a dead horse...(ok, to beat a dead horse)...but does anyone remember the last time WOCL finished above WJRR??? Blame the rock audience, blame the stations, blame whoever.

We can all criticize Sunny, hell, we can criticize any station (and we all do), but I dunno. I may be wrong (but i don't think i am), but seems to me that CBS made the RIGHT move.

SUNNY is the fastest growing radio station in Orlando. It looks like it's all coming at the expense of WMMO.

Topping JRR isn't that much to brag about. They're an WXTB clone = irrelevant and in the past

But you're right, sunny will become a competitor sooner than later.

Most stations that pick up a classic hits format "click" sooner than Sunny has. I think you've seen the best of their capabilities under present leadership. As I understand it, Bob Barry is the only one on the staff with any classic hits/oldies experience. In listening to the station it seems to me that CBS opted to just take the cheap route, rather than trying to make Sunny a well-oiled machine with experienced personnel on and off the mic.

I believe that the last time that O-Rock beat JRR in the ratings was either the fall of '04 or spring '05. That was back when Howard Stern was still on. Then Stern left, and it was all downhill...

However, I do not believe that O-rock had a bad run. I mean, c'mon, the station was on the air for about seven years...

That is a hell of a lot longer than some other stations that I can think of (Q-102, The Rock YOu Grew Up With, The Crow...)

Good point DIZ Guy. Loved your post on Tampa about the legendary 95WYNF. That monster practically rocked Orlando too. I got a shirt I'll sell ya for cheap............. ;D

SUNNY and MIX have too many overlap songs. MIX needs an updated playlist, maybe drop the 80s and leave it to SUNNY
Perhaps CBS should consider flipping 105.1 back to CHR,Move 102JAMZ away from CHR & Back to 100% Urban(With More Urban Oldies & Slow Jamz)....SUNNY would appeal to former MIX Listeners....MIX could compete with XL more directly and 102JAMZ could cover some inroads COX has made against JAMZ with WCFB.

Froggy, I like your thought process, excellent idea!!! Can O-town support 2 CHR's? XL is so vanilla these days, perhaps a dance-leaning CHR would work. My only concern: too many stations cluttered on the FM dial, not enought viable formats.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions, comments?...........

As I stated with my other thread, 70's-80's with Top 40 style jocks from the era, PAMS jingles, contests, the whole 9 yards.

Congrats, Tanner! You're the only one on this thread that has nailed it down. That's what Sunny needs, but (as I have stated), it won't get it because the present leadership doesn't "get it". Get it?

Kind of like BJ105/WLOF used to sound like. It would be great if they could get some of the old DJs from those stations as well.

I think that the idea of flipping 105.1 to CHR would be a terrible idea. To me, 105.1 is a reminder of a great Top 40 radio station from a lost time, a time when one had to play a musical instrument and actually have some sort of musical talent to make it on the radio. It reminds me of a time when bands were actually formed on their own, instead of having some big fat dude who is now in jail do it for them. It reminds me of a time when I could look at the billboard hot 100 and know what the number one song sounded like. It reminds me of a time when the song and the artist or groups on the chart were recognizable. For example, before 1992, one could look at the top ten, and the number 6 song would be something like "My Sharona, by The Knack, or "Love Shack" , by the B-52's. If you look and the chart now, the number 6 hit is something like "Pimpin' Out, Oh yea, Yea" by "Lil' Jon and Puffy, featuring Ying yang the clown, Fat John, D-hood mafia, and Pimpin' fat man from the hood". I find stuff like that VERY confusing...

Keep 105.1 the way it is....
