Nova M/On Second Thought failure and the return of Progressive Radio in Phoenix

I guess that is what happens when conservatives cant deal with someone, especially a non white minority tries to make something happen.

Wow. Played the political card, the tolerance card and the race card in one sentence. And all because someone had the gall to question something that looked fishy. Amazing. I guess tolerance is a one-way street with some.

This venture is already a failure, and not due to the irony of its creator desiring capital so that he can provide airtime to people denouncing capitalism.

It fails because talk radio, regardless of political stripe, must be thoughtful and inclusive to succeed, and making the assumption quoted above is neither inclusive, nor thoughtful, especially when one considers that as this is a print medium, no one could possibly know that a person with a WASP-y name like Robert H. McDonald Jr. was a "non white minority". (BTW, I don't think "gay" or "woman" are officially classified as minorities, so is there any other kind of minority other than the non-White kind? Just wonderin'.)

It fails because its creator puts up a website with errors in it, which speaks to carelessness. A professional look is of the utmost importance when soliciting funding - why would I invest in someone who just slapped together a website that advertised a telephone number that didn't work, and still has typographical errors after two weeks when it would have been so easy to run the text through a spell checker before posting? (Hint: Microsoft Word would identify those.)

It fails because one who claims as a mission to "counter the hate and division that has infected our society" employs the very tactics he denounces.

It fails because its own advertising points to activism radio, and as OhioMediaWatch has astutely observed, "'activism talk radio' rarely garners any listeners".

This venture fails because to succeed, it will have to attract first the funding, and then the ears, of conservatives and of Whites. And it would be so much better if the investors were wealthy, too. Given your performance here, I'm not convinced you could pull that off, Mr. McDonald.

Oh, come on, capitalism is only evil when they are doing it. Them conservatives and big business people are so evil! Abolish big business, no more going to the store for food, we must produce it ourselves! No more of them greedy doctors and the evil drug companies that make all that life saving medicine, just grow some herbs! And no bombs, and no military, when we get attacked, just put a flower in their gun. Kumbahya my lord....

BTW, poor spelling crosses all political lines, a poorly designed web page with spelling errors and bad grammar is inexcusable, and you can't blame it on them evil republicans!

Agreed. That's why I said nothing about Republican vs. Democrat, or Conservative vs. Liberal Progressive in conjunction with busting the spelling/grammar. Politics are irrelevant to this issue. A professional website is like a resume; if a candidate is not careful enough to ensure that the web page is free of errors, I'm not spending time or money on him. He can go back to his Facebook page.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing entertaining and intelligent liberal progressive talk in Phoenix. But my experience has been that it is rarer than snow here.

Will Randi Rhodes finally get the chance to pull some numbers with lib talk?

She'll have some big syndication muscle behind her as Premiere Radio Networks
(home of the evil El Rushbo ;)) offers her live 12-3pm PT starting May 11.

Feel free to discuss which PHX market talker or wannabe talker might pick up
her show...

What's available?

KFNX? No room.

KAZG? Maybe they'll just dump oldies altogether. Or maybe they're just a temporary "holding" station in case Sporting News Radio finally bites the dust and Gumpdusky needs programming on 1060.

KFNN? Very very unlikely given their format.

KMVP? Depends on who TMISU finally sell that station to.

Any FM (other than KTAR, of course) considering moving to talk?

Someone should make the room for her. I could see KTAR doing it - I already think of them as Fairness Doctrine Radio. Rhodes and Ed Schultz were the only two AAR talkers I would tune in to - even though I agreed with very little of what they were saying. Rhodes figured out what Limbaugh already knew: have a clue what your own beliefs are, don't be afraid to criticize, even castigate, your own party, but above all else, entertain first. Limbaugh and Rhodes both had experience as music jocks before going talk, so they know how to entertain.

Huh? Aunt Carlos - Conservative Glenn Beck - Conservative Dumber & Dumbest - Conservative Phil Hendrie - Weird. KFWhyEye would just love to hear Randi #@!&% Rhodes on KT'R...they'd be even more Number One-est!

With the current administration and make up of Congress, there is absolutely no opening for liberal talk. Without Dubya and Dick Cheney, aint no one to blame and ridicule anymore!

Oops...left off Joe Crummey - Conservative & Evil

Well now trying to get this progressive talk radio is I must say a very tall order especially with zero capital...I am not against capitalism by all means....I have decided to take a step back for now and reevaluate my business plan to see what needs to be changed to raise capital. I am not calling it quits, just yet...but just taking a break...if something comes along to help me get this going sooner all the better. I am still hopeful that we can get the Progressive voice back on the airwaves.

Now for the guy who posted my other website aminister4you.com....thank you for the free advertising....I enjoy helping newlyweds start their lives together.

The Phoenix AM radio landscape is odd, to say the least, but I have trouble seeing where Randi Rhodes lands in the market when she starts up again on May 11th.

She certainly gets no live clearance on one of the major stations, and I can't figure out who'd carry her on delay, for example.

Is her show something a KFNX picks up? I don't know.

Robert, good luck to you. You're not the only guy with a "big idea" but no money to implement it. Unfoirtunately for you, commercial talk radio requires money of some sort, even if you're not buying the time or leasing/LMAiing a station.

While I appreciate his views, I think Ankarlo would rather be nice than be truly conservative. He doesn't challenge obvious nonsense.

The sports jock and sports jock wannabe that hold down the evening drive aren't smart enough to be conservative. They can pick the low-hanging fruit, but they'd rather talk about themselves and male body parts than things conservative.

Crummey comes across on the air as a nice guy, but again, I don't think he has the intellectual chops to be truly conservative. He reminds me of an Ahwatukee Republican - talks the talk, but can't resist those gummint goodies. The former liberal hasn't completely made the break.

You're spot on about Hendrie - you jealous? :D

The only true conservatives in the bunch are Ankarlo and Beck, but only Beck seems to have the stones to be unapologetic.

KTAR is about as conservative as Arlen Specter.
