Now that djx has there new morning show what else will mainline do???

I wonder if they will hire sarah jordan formerly sarah j on the max for the 7- midnight shift on todays hit music? I wonder if mainline is going to sell any of there stations? I have noticed a few changes at the max not many a handful of tunage added since they took over and the layoffs from djx and the max.

Maybe Kentuckymedia can shed some light on this, but I heard from a friend in the Carolina's that they have had conversations with a fairly big name TRIPLE A PD about coming to town. Evidently WFPK is is making way more money that most people think, and they believe they can get a peice of that pie...KYMEDIA...any hints from what you hear!

Something to balance out wfpk would be great and make me ;D i like fpk but i can do without the blues and jazz.

And I can do w/o another alt rock station that pulls a 1 share. Jazz & BlLues is what built WFPK. I'm not a huge Jazz fan at all, but, "...the blues is alright!" WFPK lost some great talent when Dan Reed & Scott Mullins left. Now I'm stuck with Woodrow on the radio. Great music but the guy can't talk. Brian Conn is one of the higher ups over there and is a GREAT guy. One of the best.

I'll take blues and jazz in exchange for commercials anyday.

I will take woodrow on the radio compared to joe and diesel on wlrs anyday. Woodrow is awesome compared to them!!! You know what i really miss about wfpk is the two fifty show with scott mullins and laura very entertaining. ;D I here that as pd at wfpk dan reed was pretty strict about what the jocks could play stacy owen let them have more control over what they play is what i heard and they like her better as far as the music goes.

WFPK is a non-commercial radio station. They do not sell advertising.

INDYDOOD - please god tell me you're joking right...."non-commercial, they don't sell advertising." the Public Radio..er, Media Partnership has traditionally had one of the largest local sales staffs in town and believe me they make money. I know, I made a good living off "underwriting" for quite a few years. So PLEASE, PLEASE tell me you were kidding, or you lose your posting rights for a week. BTW-The PD Mainline is talking too has some knowledge of the market and what WFPK does.

Woodrow is awful! He's so busy trying to get everything to rhyme that his delivery is stuttered. I did hear that Dan tightened things up a bit but you have to. The more far left you go more people tune out. If you let the jocks program their own music, you get a show built around his or her taste. You have to appeal to the masses. Stacy is another one who was awful on the air. Laura used to be that way but she's improved a lot.

You are right about appealing to the masses but once i emailed a jock there and here is what they told me the pd programs about 50-75% and 25% is what the jocks pick and about 25% is a shared format program = AAA new music. I agree stacy does not have a great voice for radio but duke who took her place plays way to much old music for my taste but thats what he likes and use to play at the now defunct lrs 102 but his voice is much better. I think james bickers has a really good personality on air at fpk i would put him in top five of jocks in this city.

It's not really about having a good voice or a bad voice. It's knowing what to do with it that makes a good or bad jock. I have to say that when I hear that a PD has given the jocks any kind of free reign to play whatever they want, I cringe, lol. There's probably about six people who think what they play is cool and the other 60,000+ are punching the scan button :)

Technically, if they're selling advertising, they're violating their non-comm status. Now, "underwriting" is a completely different animal but cannot be compared to the way commercial radio is sold. Not only that, many non-comms are staffed by volunteers; otherwise, they could never afford to operate and compete with commercial stations. I know a number of people who operate non-comm stations and they mode of operation is, compared to commercial radio, apples and corn.

It's also pretty much understood that while some non-comms around the country do very well in their specific market, most (non-NPR types) sound like crap from both a music and talent/presentation perspective.

I don't think Sarah Jaye-Jordan qualifies for the night show. The only way she gets the job is if Mainline is putting out false job advertisements like CC does, and wants to pay a part timer instead.

I like her but liked her better on the max. I bet djx will hire someone in the same vein as ben and mike shannon are. High energy, Just my thoughts on the matter.

HotP, for once, I totally agree with you! She fit the Max really well! And DJX should hire someone as good as Ben and Mike were. A voice-tracked Carlos on 98.9 has NO fun on his show!

CHR needs to be live and local not piped in.I can see getting rid of overnights to cut costs.

Hey radioville we have agreed on stuff we both agree lrs needs to go away asap!!! Also so we don't have to here the horrific non talents of joe or diesel i can tolerate skinny j i would keep him when that station flips or sells or whatever it does. How do you think a triple a station would do at 105.1? I think it would get similar numbers as what is there now but with a good sales team and programmed right it could generate revenue in its target demo which is more then i can say for lrs.

Duke only plays the really old stuf on his Sat show Relics & on Louisville's Lost & Found. I'm not much of a fan of most of the jocks on FPK. I like Duke and Burke Bryant but the rest all pretty much sound the same in delivery. Mike Young, Bickers and Scott Mulins (who I liked) all pretty much sound the same in tone. To each his own.

Well Stacy didn't know what to do with it. I disagree about your "Cringe." Most of the jocks on FPK really know there stuff when it comes to music and the people who listen usually aren't tuning in for Freebird or Night Moves. What missing from this business (besides live on air staffs) is a good PD with an ear for music. Most rely on testing and consultants. Thats why I listen to XM> A good song is a good song. Play it!
