NPR stations show talk doesn't need to be alt-right all-the-time

WBLK is a music station that has a talk morning show. I was talking (no pun intended) about an all-talk format that will pull in lower demos. That has to be locally-focused.

Do you have an example of that? Because younger demos seem to have no trouble at all with national content.

But they don't seem to want to hear talk. They'd rather DO it.

Nielsen Research released a report stating that public stations in the news-talk format are gaining ground with younger demos faster than commercial news-talk stations, although commercial talkers have a larger audience share than public stations. http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/news/2017/diving-deeper-into-ppms-news-talk-surge.html

Of course non-commercial stations tend to use more national talk than local (as evidenced by WBFO).

Still, even though it's increasing, we're talking about 2.8%! Yikes!

Wait what about Serial and S-town These are spin-off series of "This American Life" from Public Radio outlet WBEZ Chicago and PRX the national distributors of "This American Life", "Serial" and "S-Town". This is one Pubic News/Talk radio affiliate to make two of its shows go podcast only to go after the median and younger audiences.

and another PRX show that also airs on Public News/talk stations distributed by PRX. As far as I know PRX(Pubic Radio Distributor) was supposed to make public radio attract younger audiences. Note these shows air at non drive time hours on many NPR News Talk affiliates.

Apparently the WBEZ/This American Life produced podcast has now released S-Town for Iheart Radio to get the target demos.
