haha you seem to really be in love with my love for Lisa haha. anyway, idk maybe to Z100 she'd do fine there. or on KRock, I seem to like it when women are on Alternative stations it sounds right to me.

One way to get that kind of format balance on a dial without adversely impacting revenues would be to have more stations in the market owned by same company. That idea has been presented to the FCC.

You left out 94.7. What would you like to hear on that frequency?

Do you honestly want a religious station on a major market FM when it will serve the same purpose on AM?

There is a 99.1 rimshotting NYC in Zarephath, NJ. There are also a few 99.1 pirates in Brooklyn.

What about 87.7?

Actually, the Toronto market has a variety of formats on its dial even though Canadian broadcasters are permitted to own only two FM and two AM stations per market.

You're replacing National Public Radio with a dance station??! What kind of philistine are you! :) NPR provides such a valuble service that I couldn't imagine replacing it with *Any* commercial format!

MarcR, we all know that you HATE dance music. Keep it to yourself. Let's not turn this thread into a bashing of dance music.

Having spent a chunk of my life in Canada, I'm here to say that you're comparing apples & oranges.

What XCountry is trying to do is get WNYC to flip to dance. They're not going to do that. WKTU is NOT going to flip back to country. The day they flipped from country to KTU, the station went from last to first in one book. So they won't flip back. And Pacifica doesn't care what anyone wants. They live in their own world.

The only way to get the NY dial to forget about its own selfishness is to take competition out of the equation. Two ways to do that is to (1) Have government-owned radio, and (2) Allow companies to own more stations.

No, it's about filling a format hole.

Hmmmm....bring back Pulse 87 on a limited signal, or welcome a new dance outlet on 93.9, which is a powerful signal.

"Spanish" is a language, not a format (from a presentation at NAB Dallas, 1982). You eliminated Spanish language pop/AC, moved Spanish language rhythmic to a frequency that can't compete and left Mega alone with a good signal when more than ever Hispanics are not all living in the same areas and represent 20% of the population.

You brought back two formats that can't generate salable shares or demos, dance and smooth jazz. You killed one of the most successful stations in sales demos, WKTU, and you dropped in a "new" station on 99.1 plus killing the valuable NPR station and Pacifica's station, too.

This is not a dream list, it's just unrealistic.

Religious broadcasters are not dumb, and they know that unless they want mostly seniors and geezer demos, they can't talk to new generations on AM.

And, while "teaching and preaching" will still work on AM, contemporary Chiristian is really an FM only format.

Nick, d21...leave MarcR alone.

We know his stance and at the same time, everyone here knows that all he does is bash on dance without giving a plausible reason for doing so. It gets tired and quite honestly, I have better things to do.

You will always have those that "hate". Let them. Concern yourselves with the ones that love. THEY matter. :)
