WINS continues to grow following the simulcast on FM. But it still sees no improvement in demographics.

I wonder if the WINS improvement is not only because more people are listening, but also because they're listening longer.

I just want to know why so many people are happy Alt 92 is gone. Someone please tell me, because I am shocked that people are happy about it.

What's your basis for this view? Is there a happiness meter somewhere?
Yes,
Everyone is saying that Audacy putting 1010 Wins on 92 is a great move, and that it should have been done sooner. No one is sad that alt 92 is no more. and I want to know why. Do you not like me for some reason?

There were plenty of posters "sad" about Alt 92.3 leaving the main channel, all having different reasons for its failure (most likely a combination of many factors).

Bottom line: it was a business decision by Audacy, maybe done a bit early, but likely they saw trends that showed WINS would eventually need the help from an FM signal to preserve its revenue while the Alternative format would be a hard one to monetize further.
Billing was close to $10 million/year when it ended - better than the $2 million/year that country on WNSH was pulling in; but evidently not enough to keep going.

I like the Alternative format, but I realize it's just business, nothing personal. If I had access to all the financial data that Audacy does I'd likely be faced with making the same decision. Sad but true.

Too many special interests taking up FM stations in the commercial band now. Also WEPN (ESPN) chugging along with a 1.1 share and WXBX flat with a 1.5 yet again. But New York is a "rhythmic" city so gotta keep flogging that hip hop horse no matter how dead it is.

All sports almost always does vastly better in billing than its 12+ numbers indicate.

Again: for two decades WFAN was never over 15th in 12+, but was #1 in billing.

Alt 92 was not getting adequate ratings and the format is a harder one to sell in many markets. They changed to protect one of the top billing stations in the market and to preserve its life for a number of more years.

Alt is declining in many markets, particularly those that are highly ethnic. New York MSA is now down to about 40% non-Hispanic white, whil ie is 17% Black, 14% Asian and 27% Hispanic. In addition, among those grouped with "non-Hispanic white" are about 10% non-Hispanic first generation immigrants from Europe and the Middle East.
So the opportunity for alternative rock being successful is nearly zero.

And even in markets that are a little less ethnic, Alternative is either faltering or a no-show, be it Boston or Jacksonville.

(It may be too early to tell whether the revived 99X will be here for the long term. But, classic alternative seems to be a variant of classic rock, and 99X is not fond of emo or Billie Eilish.)

As usual, the ratings for Spanish language CHR X96.3 are substantially below those of Mega 97.9. Both stations sound very similar.
Might it not be helpful to X96.3 and the local Hispanic community to offer something different?

I love Emo and Billie Eilish. I do love 90s rock. Billie is talented and she was hilarious hosting SNL a few years ago.
