NYC stations during the hurricane

How do you operate an elevator to lift in an emergency generator without electricity?

Further, is there physical space for generators in the top floors? From the photos I've seen, Empire's transmission rooms are pretty crowded.

I saw some photos of it of Fybush's site and I'm amazed people can even MOVE in that place!

I think people are missing a critical point here... you can't run a gas or diesel generator INSIDE!! Exhaust needs to be vented outside. This is the Empire State Building, not a cinder block building in the woods. While anything's possible, I'm sure there are sump pumps and staff manning the building making sure that the generators stay on, and the building stays dry.

Just learned that 1010 WINS will begin a simulcast on 102.7 FM tomorrow morning!

Great News for people not in the NY area

1050 ESPN radio is airing the audio from Channel 7. Why couldn't they use WPLJ?

They're no longer co-owned. Disney held onto their Radio Disney and ESPN Radio stations when they sold of ABC Radio. Now, WEPN's only sister properties in NYC are WQEW and WABC-TV.

Speaking channel 7... Appears they are shooting/running their coverage in SD (4:3) from watching their web stream (is it that way on the over air too?) They have the 4:3 video in a 16:9 window with the 7 logo bars on either side. (or is this the web stream only like that)

WLTW 106.7 is playing regular music, via webstream. BAD decision for CC...

WOR 710 is simulcasting WNBC-TV 4, which is simulcasting MSNBC.......

WABC is providing its own coverage of Irene.
WPLJ is simulcasting WABC's coverage of the storm.
WWFS was simulcasting WINS for a while, but has apparently returned to its normal programming.
WEPN 1050 AM continues to simulcast WABC TV.
WKJY, 98.3 in Nassau County, is simulcasting News 12 Long Island.
WBLI 106.1 is also covering the storm for Long Island. Apparently they are taking many phone calls from residents.
WVOX 1460 AM is covering the storm situation in the Westchester County area.
WQBU and WHOM AM are providing coverage in Spanish.

I've done some more tuning around since my post.
As this is being written, both WMCA and WNYC are apparently off the air. Are their transmitters at the same site in NJ?
WOR is also providing Irene coverage.

The shack at:
40°45'10.85N X 74°06'25.00W
Eight feet above average sea level

WBAI at like 2am was ranting about prisoner rights.. Apperently they thought that the prisoners should have been 'removed' to protect against possible deaths... I thought that was interesting to hear on air as the storms 'headed in' when they should have been covering the weather instead of such rants.

Pacifica does not have the news staff capabilities of the major stations

I get that but ranting on air that the major should be concerned about evacuating the prisoners so they don't suffer possible death in possible floods is a little to much I think to be honest?

Just an FYI... of the stations at the Empire State Building that have generators, their generators are co-located with their transmitters, i.e. in the same room as their tx. As far as elevators go, the ESB has it's own generators that are capable of powering certain elevators that can reach all floors.
