O&A FIRED - Reported On Fan Site

Here is the message. I guess now FM radio rules and sat sucks guys?

I have received word that O&A have been FIRED from XM!!!

I was told this by an extremely trusted source, and not an employee/relative of an XM employee.

Get on the phone, cancel your XM. DO NOT take the 30-day credit - CANCEL it! XM will feel that much more on their bottom line than a 30-day dip.

If XM feels the sting of thousands of people canceling their subs, then there is some sort of a chance!

I predict if this is true they play it like they quit tomorrow because XM did not stand behind them. That way they keep their rebel thing going. Unbelievable this whole story.

This quote is 100% correct and comes from the owner of the web site. This really is turning out to be the end of radio in NY....what the hell is going on?

This is the latest from Wackbag.com:

What to do next??
THINK SNATCHING YOUR MONEY BACK FROM XM ISN'T ENOUGH? WANT TO MAKE MORE OF AN IMPRESSION ON XM??

TOMORROW MORNING (5/16/07), THERE WILL BE A PROTEST OF XM, AND A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF PRESS AT THE FREE FM STUDIOS IN NY!

BRING YOUR XM UNIT TO SMASH IT IN PROTEST!!

MAKE SOME NOISE!! AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE SHOW!!!

(yes, I know I sent the e-mail with the wrong date :-/)

Yeah great plan, smash equip. you've already paid for, that'll really hurt XM!. Apparantly wackbag is directly related to Anthony of O and A as well, he has some sort of moderator role there so I bet the info contained on it is correct.

No, they both apparently suck. Their CBS show tomorrow will be an interesting one, indeed. Too bad most of the country won't hear it.

Y'know, the other day I pulled out my new-but-dusty Hi-MD portable and began going through my hundreds of MDs, reaquaiting myself with the music that got me through my 10 hour workdays back in B'ham. If the boys are really fired, my XM is sooo cancelled. I get all their music channels on DirecTV in superb sound quality. I can just record 5 hours of Top Tracks at a time to satiate my need for a classic rock station. Which this area doesn't have. Then I'll have a decent jukebox of music to listen to, PLUS the ability to skip awful songs. Let's see FM do that. :)

...an XM stunt?

http://www.bostonradiowatch.com

"In an e-mail to this space, one veteran radio industry observer questioned whether the whole controversy is nothing more than XM-generated publicity stunt :

"It sounds to me more like a publicity stunt for the XM executives to apologize for something that no one was complaining about. XM put its money on O&A hoping that their "shock" value would generate publicity. Much the way Howard Stern does for Sirius, even though O&A went to satellite first. When that didn't happen they agreed to let O&A simulcast on CBS radio in hopes that people would hear them and want more. That failed miserably as O&A failed to get back lost Stern ratings and, in some major markets, pulled in an embarrassing 0.0 rating. Now they, themselves, are trying to create something that would generate some buzz for O&A and for XM. It appears that isn't even working as the major networks are ignoring it."

So I guess that means about ten XM radios in total will be smashed since that probably represents the cume [corrected to clarify meaning] of OA XM listeners. :)

It is kind of strange that O&A's next public appearance (accodring to the schedule on their website) is just about 35 days from now. I had the same thought. A dying radio show, desperate for listeners, pulls out all the plugs as the ship sinks, hoping to get someone to listen.

This suspension from XM may actually be linked to a possible format flip for 92.3 and other CBS stations from "Free-FM". Think about it. The suspension is for 30 days. CBS hopes to get as much listener traffic as possible within its time frame to possibly boost the ratings. Then, BOOM - Flip City!

Ew.

Wow....that's...uh......funny. Ten radios.

This is the kind of humor you can come to expect on radio.

I don't know what "[EDIT]" has to do with it either.

[EDIT-quote taken from earlier post removed for vulgar content]

Let's see.. I own an XM radio. I don't listen to and never have listened to O&A. I don't care where they are, I'm not interested in them. But..in protest of something I don't care about I should smash my XM. God I thought I left high school years ago.

Yes, pretty stupid...as an XM subscriber myself I have never listend to them, I got XM for the music channels, not the talk channels. I dont think this will really affect their bottom line that much (XM)...sure some will cancel, but my guess is more subscribers are in it for the music channels.

I may be wrong, but I believe the "vulgar" comment was really a typo as meant to be "cume", which would represent the "total weekly O & A audience".

Incidentally, I am an XM subscriber and have never listened to O & A...

I too am a music listener that doesn't listen to O and A. Here's something to ponder though. If we let the thought police win this one, what's next? Are they going to start filtering what goes on the hip-hop channels? Are they going to tell us that "Funky sh*t goin down in the city" is unacceptable in Jet Airliner by Steve Miller? What's next folks? Where does it end? Call them today and insist if they insist in this kind of action, you'll cancel. Then, if they continue to cave to the thought police action, cancel them. At 12 dollars a month, they're really too high priced anyway.
