O&A gone from WZNE

All Access is reporting that Opie & Anthony are gone from WZNE. A night jock is gone too.
Does this signal a possible format change for the Zone? Perhaps going after Legends 102.7 ???

Another reason for the change that I forgot to mention could be that Stephens Media either didn't want to, or could afford to, spend money to keep Opie and Anthony's show.
From what I understand their show does cost some big bucks. Maybe Stephens figured they could save money by dumping that show and putting on something else.
It's just a thought!

We'll see if the other shoe drops now, that being the Zone dropping Rover. If that happens, WDCX will be the Crawford station getting competition, not WLGZ.

Is that just a hunch on your part or have you gotten some inside dope over at Crawford?

My best guess is that a Froggy is coming.

Not that it couldn't be done, but I believe they would have to license the "Froggy" name.

They already own a Froggy 97 in Watertown,(bought from former owner Regent) so I thought they'd have the automatic right to launch a froggy in Rochester.

Stephens Media owns a station in Watertown? Also, what's a Froggy format? I must confess to not having heard it.

You haven't missed much. Froggy is a country format that assigns amphibian- or swamp-themed names to the airstaff -- for example, Polly Wogg, David Hopperfield, Leapin' Leah, Lilly Pad, Toady, etc. The air studio is usually painted an ugly shade of green to boost morale.

If Gordon Brown had flipped one of his stations to country, he might have adopted this approach.

 You are joking right? Lilly Pad...David Hopperfield! Why not add a few more names like:

Hoppity Pooper
Slimey Sam
Horney Toad
Willie Wart

Gordon Brown did flip WSAY to country back in 1979. I'm surprised he didn't think of it then. Also, is Tad Pole still with Froggy? Just wondering, well, maybe not.

The Froggy format comes from the [sarc]creative genius[/sarc] of Kirby Confer, Keymarket Broadcasting and his daughter's Forever Broadcasting. Even in 2009, it's amazing what people will allow themselves to be called just to have a job (Kid Cattail, Ally Gator, Web Foot, etc.) Not too far from the days of Mike Melody, Jerry Jack, Tommy Thomas, Matt Maguire and Bobby bell. Froggy is a lousy Country format. WYRK would wring its neck. But Froggy is a recognizable moniker, just like The Pig, Kiss, Star, Jack, Belch, The Zone, The Lake, Alice and Puss. Kirby laughs all the way to the bank.

It appears Gordon P. Brown was just way ahead of his time. Not just with his fake names, but also his low paid skeleton staff and no news department or even rip and read news.

And religious broadcasters were ahead of their time with repeater stations.

Sad.

For those who like personality-driven radio, you'll notice that some religious stations are better at it than their secular counterparts.

YES! Froggy 97.

The only one with Pond and Cricket in the morning.

That's Pond!...JAMES Pond!

Odd enough, I actually love this station.

I do miss listening to a live and local evening shift with that Cryin' Lovin' or Leapin' show.
It's sad to see former owner Regent had to cut back and let so many people go when they did.
