OCTOBER NUMBERS

Steelers give DVE a big bump, Kiss back to #2.

104.7 down the last two months.... were people listening to baseball? (65-107?)

Y108 had an AWFUL month, they're down 1.5 points in the last two months....

And the Fan is now #11 overall, which likely means they're doing pretty well with men.

It must be. One gets the feeling that Steel City might want to start looking for a new format because at this rate Q92.9 could be toast by New Years if the ratings continue to slide.

And less billing.

Pitt has a lot less to do with that than the demise of 1250.

Penn State football is going to end up where next year, KQV?

WLTJ should never have made changes a few years ago. At least they were competitive with WSHH. Q?

WLTJ's overall numbers aren't great, but all they care about is women 25-54. They are probably OK in demo, plus BOB-FM is the big dog now at Steel City.

With about 100,000 cume less than WZPT and WSHH, representing a steady decline of about 100,000 over a 3 month period it would appear WLTJ is having serious problems competing in the AC world. Think about how CBS was able to flip B94 to sports while transitioning the B94 audience to Star. During this obvious programming shift, WLTJ didn't pick up any of Star's cume. This is a direct competitor. CBS came out unscathed. WLTJ either cut or lost a jock. Does that matter when the most personality they exhibit are those dreadful song tags?

Interesting times ahead for WLTJ whose flip a few years ago brought moderate success from their previous incarnation. However, that's been drained by over reliance on tricks obviously not appealing to the audience any more.

Aren't they still doing that Urban AC thing at night? For starters, I'd ditch that. You can't be all things to all people and going from an AC/Hot AC sound in the day to urban at night is just a trainwreck. I know they were trying to pick up audience after the demise of the urban station, but I think that was a really dumb move. Either stay AC all day or flip to urban AC if they want, but doing both together is just dumb.

I find WLTJ to very hard to listen to because it sounds so contrived. WZPT is standard issue Hot AC and WSHH is just like any AC everywhere else, but WLTJ is just plain wrong. They should go back to the WPNT format of really soft ac and pull a WDUV. I think Pittsburgh is old enough to dig that format.

LTJ is 10th in the demo, overall, and tied for 10th, M-F 6a-7p. BOB is #1 in both.

Yes they are, and while there are some good songs every once in a while, the tags just make it instantly dopey (even if they are in an "urban" voice). Dump ALL the tags, go urban AC in the daytime and a little more on the 60s/70s soul tip in the nighttime or on the weekend. Or else, like MMR said, go full out Carpenters and Celine.

The "BOB remembers going to West View Park" spots are equally dopey, but at least they're not after EVERY. DAMN. SONG.

I love the tags.

'Bob's mother dragged him to Boggs and Buhl's when he was a kid.' "Bob got shoes at Little's and still does"

"Bob danced at Savor's"

not so much on Bob, but on LTJ. I'm fanatical about knowing the title and artist.

With the limited variety of the playlist, even the most "occasional" a/c listener should know everything they play. Tags are not needed.

Flip this station to urban a/c or a WDUV clone. And don't anyone start how neither format can bill. If a sales team can not market the only urban a/c in THE MARKET, or a WDUV clone to one of the oldest metropolitan areas in the country, then you need the fire the sales team. Either way, they would still get more listeners than being in the ratings cellar they always are. Also, having an adult hits / adult contemporary combo is only hurting each other. Steel City is smarter than this and why they have dragged Q on as long as they have is a very good question.

Urban can't bill. WJJJ and WAMO have proved that beyond any reasonable doubt.
