If Reege retires, all bets are off regarding
what ABC might do. Possibly, too, ABC
could cancel "The View," but I can't see
it (good demographics if nothing else). If
ABC were to cancel one of its soaps, my
money would be on "One Life To Live."
"General Hospital" would then move to 2 PM
(ET), and the affiliates would get back 3 PM.
But I just cannot see ABC changing its daytime
lineup.
If--heaven forbid--CBS adds an hour or more
to "The Early Show," I'll be interested in seeing
how my two CBS affiliates handle it. WFMY
has its three-hour local "Good Morning Show"
from 5-8 AM, followed by "The Early Show" from
8-10, and then Ellen DeGeneres from 10-11, and
she does well in the Triad. And around here, the
CBS soaps dominate the afternoon, so I don't
see WFMY dumping "Guiding Light" at 3 to accommodate
Ellen. WRAL has "The Early Show" from 7-9, followed
by "Dr. Phil," and I can't see him being bumped to 3,
either (RAL already has one soap out of pattern: "The
Young And The Restless" at 4).
However, with so many CBS o&os carrying GL in the
morning, an expanded "Early Show" could be the death
knell for it, rendering the preceding paragraph moot.
But again, ABC has nothing to gain (its affiliates certainly
don't) by an expanded GMA, and I ask again, who watches
"The Early Show" anyway?
I'm not betting the farm on either network's expanding
its morning show.
