OK, I gotta share this listener's note

I don't really have any comments, but just thought I'd share this note from a listener:

Message: Assuming this is the forum for me to weigh in with my opinion: you have sanitized Christmas into just a winter holiday -- not playing carols that mention Christ, wishing us "happy holidays", etc. I'm not sure why you have done this, but it is offensive, and it teaches your students that it is necessary to cater to the voice of a very small minority. I'll bet the vast majority of your listeners would rather hear "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" instead of "Here Comes Santa Claus".

Wow....

Jesus Chr---- I mean, wow!

Count me in the majority that would prefer "Last Song" and "I'm Not Lisa" over Christm---- holiday tunes!! Well, almost.

OK, cue me up "Hark Times Herald Angels Sing" (in memory of the late DTH, which published its last issue 16 years ago yesterday.) Oh, and that great holiday song about "Jack's nuts roasting on an open fire..."

;D

Well I think I prefer Chipmunks, over Jack's nuts... ;D

People complain too much this time of year, of all the things to worry about (poverty, war, disease) this old broads gotta complain about "hark the herald" not being played. I tell ya what: When we fix the rest of the problems in the country with race, creed, religion, gender, preference and handicap, then we can grip about a song not being played.

Apologies for the rant, I just get sick and tired of the "jesus is the reason/keep christ" crowd this time of year.

Perhaps if we could fix our problems AT HOME first...

OMG!!!! You didn't capitalize "Jesus" and "Christ"...I damn thee to eternal damnation, dammit!

With all due respect to you guys and your stations, this person made the big mistake of relying on a secular station to receive religious inspiration. On the other hand, it's also odd that secular stations capitalize on the holiday season by playing Christmas-themed music and then complain when someone is upset that it isn't 'Christ-like' enough. In some sense you've got to admit the hypocrisy. Why not just keep it secular and not play any Christmas-type of music? Christianity has provided us a beautiful season that we all cherish, it's based on Christ and many stations are trying to take advantage of that. So it's a bit odd to get offended when someone makes a comment about the fact that you're watering it down to the point of being unrecognizable as Christmas music. I've ranted about this before and I don't intend to get into a big fight about it, just wanted to be 'perhaps' the only person to stand up for this lady even though she's obviously tuned into the wrong station if she's trying to grow in her faith.

OK guys, let's not start a holy war here.

By the way, the complaint I posted was from a guy...

Oh, ok. Makes sense now. So why didn't Dr. Griffin just tell you his complaint in person, instead of emailing you? ;D

Ain't that the truth! I put those folks in the same category as the extremists at the other end of the spectrum of the Christmas debate.

As for myself, I welcome any wishes of a "merry Christmas", "happy holidays", or anything else that represents a positive attitude and kind thoughts.

Mike,

Actually he did reply to the complaint. :) I was just curious to see what the reaction around here was. ;) What we do is start with music that's compatible with the 70's tunes, until going solid holiday. At that time, the carols will be added.

Oops, I didn't state that correctly...just trying to make a funny, like Dr G was the one who wrote the complaint in the first place, himself, complaining to you about his own station. Get it? ha ha? <sound of crickets deafens Shannon and his weak attempt at humor...> :-[

EXCELLENT! 8) After I compose the letter, I'll put it on a website, and set it up for electronic signatures! We'll make it the offical "Get Robert off the air!" petition. ;D

R

Heh, actually the real petition I'd love to start, has nothing to do with me or KEOM.

But I can't discuss it right now.

I used to be offended by "Happy Holidays" - until I realized that the origin of the word "holiday" is "HOLY day". Brenda Lee started the term, or at least used it decades ago, in a Christmas song that half the stations in town are playing. As for "Merry Christmas" - "merry" used to have a very different meaning, but "Christmas" sounds a great deal like "Christ MASS", and anything Catholic is irrelevant to Christians that aren't members of that church. Still - I find it amusing to go around wishing everybody a "Merry Christmas" and getting positive reactions from 99.9% of the people I meet, and shocked looks of horror from the PC crowd. I love messing with them - they deserve it!

I could not have said that any better!
