Ok, I will...

Since nobody else has brought it up, I will.

Haven't heard from the Media Hut on the Clear Channel sale yet. Are Dr. Akbar & the Wonder Nurse out of the country? We would have expected to get some sort of take from them on this remarkable piece of media news. What gives?

According to a post on the Iowa board, CC is selling stations in smaller markets (below #100) but keeping the larger-market stations. Not sure if this affects Arizona at all.

They are selling stations that aren't in the top 100 markets, but it still affects Phoenix, as the company itsself is being sold...

Clear Channel Communications, Inc. has agreed to be acquired by a group led by of Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. and Bain Capital Partners LLC, in a transaction with a total equity value of approximately $18.7 billion at a price of $37.60 per share in cash, subject to an upward adjustment “ticking fee” in the event the transaction closes on or after January 1, 2008.

If I understand correctly, the Mays family will still own the percentage they own now, but the percentage currently publicly owned will be owned by this group of investors? I know little about mergers, etc. Anyone know what this really all means?

On a more serious note, Dr Akbar is a [EDIT].

It means that (a) whoever has more than 51% of the stock will control the business, and (b) not only will smaller stations be sold, but even in the big markets things such as personalities' and managers' employment status could change. The latter is the only thing that will affect Phoenix since they have no plans (yet) to sell any of their large-market stations. I don't think any CC station in Phoenix has much to worry about with the possible exception of KOY.

I should add that not only is CC getting out of the small-market radio business but they're also selling their TV group as well.

Don't think CC has much outside of Phoenix/Tucson. Just three of four stations in Yuma. BTW, if you think these small market and unrated market stations will suddenly get "more local" once CC divests them, think again. Look at Flagstaff or any similar market where the big conglomerates have yet to get their paws on. Other than one group, it's nothing but Prophet systems in a breakroom. Only without CC's piping in of news, wx, etc. from the larger regional hubs, you'll have even less local service!

We were making repairs to our summer double wide up in Milpitas! Damn flex-pipe, nothing but trouble.

The Nurse and I don't care as radio stations prices are so high only investment companies and TMISU can afford to buy 'em anymore. All the more reason to go long on shares of XM & Sirrius.
