OK WPLM has flipped, but to what?

and speaking of the Queen Of Sap.... Delilah, what place does she have in a format such as that?

If you want my opinion, strictly as a radio fan with no knowledge of programming, she doesn't fit the new direction of the station.

Considering how many stations south of Boston carry her already, I never understood why they picked up her show.

Now the question is will Alan Anderson and Kevin Cronin replace her with something that is more in line with the new direction the station is taking, which if I understand it correctly, is a focus more on the 70's and 80's, or is it just playing more 70's and 80's?

I believe that all of his shows are brokered time--he or his "producer," Paul Neumann-Schlossberg, buys the time. Given that, it seems most unlikely that WPLM would not want the business. The fact that Dick Robinson, who plays music of the same genre, apparently is still on, suggests that Della Chiesa's programs are unlikely to disappear.

I'm looking at several hours of playlists and finding three to five '90s or '00s songs in most of them. The rest are '60s, '70s and '80s. I'd say it's a tweak toward more '70s and '80s rather than making those decades the focus.

Coincidentally, the song "now playing" when I checked was REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore." The lead singer of REO Speedwagon is Kevin Cronin. I wonder if they'll be playing anything by NRBQ, led by Al Anderson.

She has two different "feeds" of her show....one is the "gold feed"...the other is a more current feed. The Gold feed is for AC's that still play some 70's music....commodores, Bette midler, etc. The other feed has more currents and is 80-ish---> present.

I think WPLM was meant to be her "Boston affiliate"...and also covers Rhode Island since WSNE dumped her, right?

Ms Campbell has reportedly turned down many offers, likely including more than a couple for five to ten times what WPLM would fetch in today's depressed station market. It is fair to conclude that it would take a serious change in her health or personal financial situation to get her to even think about selling.

To me, The station just sounds very uninspired and very predictable.

Also Delilah can just go away. I would rather hear the station jockless than Hear that Syndi-blah.
 
Yes I have been listening.....I`m hearing Air Supply, The same Christopher Cross And of course the same Billy Joel songs that have been played to death. How about something like The four tops ---Just Ask the lonely or The Allan Parsons Project---Don`t answer me. Or Barenaked ladies----Lovers in a Dangerous Time.

They really need to stand out and be different

I don't think it's paid. The station's been doing Rosary for a long time. I'd say going back to the 80's, following Bill O'Connell's overnight show (after he left Ch.5-Sports).

I was in the North Plymouth studio the day they came on the air - if I remember correctly Ava Maria by Perry Como and the Rosary were on from the beginning.
 
Why compete not try to go after some of the Top-40 listeners. If they could carve away 10% of the people who listen to Kiss-108, would it be worth it giving them more listeners than they currently have?

No, they need to be a station that can generate ROI for their advertisers. Even 99.9 % of the music on Variety Hits stations (which are "different" in format than your typical stations) is familiar and safe.
 
I really think they need to dump Delilah if they're gonna go this route, and maybe the Sinatra stuff on the weekend. I'm surprised they haven't done away with it already.

I agree on the Sinatra stuff, but they can take the Gold feed of Delilah if they haven't already
 
Sinatra is paid time, I don't see them dumping it, there is no upside.


Besides who wants to endure a bunch of negative publicity for taking Ron off the air?
It happened before.

Delilah has to go, I don't care what feed they take, it is all crap and sap.

They can kiss the entire male demographic off from 7 to midnight, except guys who are trapped in the car with females who control the radio, and guys that are living in Mom's basement.

Even if those hours were to be voice tracked by the existing staff, it would be an improvement over Delilah.
