Prob 83...I have not edited the tape down yet...

If '83, would it not by that time been known as The Wave? No matter, will be cool to hear and thanks in advance! There is a facebook page for fans of the old KYYX before it became The Wave if anyone is interested. Also one for when it was The Wave for that matter.

REAL generic on the call letters...if they give them at all with this thing...Eric as the newpaper guy and then Moose doing his thing...just saying KYYX. I remember an article in the Times...I thought that they printed all the songs and the comments fromt he readers as to why thy liked that cut.

I know what house I was living in...so it was either 82 or 83...heck that station was not around much longer. Dubbing in some old california aircheck tapes i found...will edit the KYYX here later tonight.

Top party songs....that sounds like something Steve Rabow would have done......

seems to me that i remember this...it was during the time when KYYX was "the wave" at the time, since that was the only time i listened to KYYX. i would be very interested in that aircheck

If you guys don't know who the Moose is, you're sooooooooooo lame.

I will give credit to KYYX as being one of the first FM top-40's in Seattle. If memory serves, The FM KVI (later KPLZ), might have beaten them to the punch. And some could argue that KOL-FM was really the first FM top-40 in the early 70's with their sometimes automated, sometimes simulcast with KOL-AM. I'm just in a little history mode here when I hear these old call letters.

And does anyone remember when KYYX did a so-called "Seattle radio reunion". The date escapes me, but I wanna say late 70's. Notable talent included former KJR, and later Chicago superstar Larry Lujack, and I think Jerry Kaye and others. I think I may still have the original cassette recording, but I would definitely have to dig through some boxes for it! Recall it was quite entertaining.

fm/KVI was first (1976) ... KYYX was 77 (after acquiring KYAC-FM) and moving the station into the old KIXI digs (KYAC was upstairs in same bldg). Reunion was 78 ... and I have the scoped version if you can't find (or want to avoid editing) yours'. Happy to dub...

ha ha, LBB, did you get that reunion from me? lol. I remember sharing a bunch of stuff with you and others...good fun!

I think I got that from the station, but probably after they had bagged me (that would have been around the 4th of July 1978!). But I know I have a bunch of other GREAT stuff that came from you ... and am in process of converting everything to a CD/DVD library. Just converted the DVD you gave me of the KVI & KPLZ ... uh .... "events". Also have a bunch of stuff I uncovered from Mike Webb of many KVI "outtakes", "practical jokes" & so forth.

Wasn't KVI but KRTH that I think one of the most creative gags ... MusicDir looped the intro to "Lucille" so it was 3x longer and remastered (still on cart at that point). Scheduled it on Steele's show since he lived for a tight talkup. yammer yammer ... POW (but no vocal) ... so yammer some more ... and POW (no vocal) .... nervous laughter .... yammer yammer POW (VOCAL) and authentic laughter!!! I know I've got the 'check of that somewhere too.

KOL-FM was automated 24/7. KOL-AM had 3 live jocks daytime and joined the FM at night.

But wasn't there a period when KOL-FM ran the AM daytime programming as well? Or am I remembering wrong? I was only about 12 at the time, so I could be terribly off here. Perhaps it was near the end, in '75. Regardless, top40 on FM was first heard in Seattle on KOL-FM. So that makes them first, even if automated, right?

LBB: I can't remember exactly what I sent you...but in the wrong hands, oh no! :)

It was a different era for sure. We all seemed to be enjoying ourselves and our jobs. What a concept! Would be interested in seeing your M. Webb stuff. PM me, as I may have a different email than you may have.

I have sent the aircheck to those that have PM'd and I really appreciate the things I have recieved in return...some great Gary Lockwood / Charlie Brown KJR stuff. Man does that bring back the memories... My mom ALWAYS had KJR on in the Nova SS...am radio you know. Then I remember she started changing it to KING...but I would change it back...I couln't miss the Police Blotter! Ha ha ha.

I'm always looking fro Emp Smith stuff too. One of my friends in college was Joel Smith...the Emps son.
