Think you're both right ... was a dessert AND a floor wax.
Definitely automated ... and while KOL-FM started as progressive, think it had gravitated mainstream in the years just before Hercules took over (9/1975*). I remember the "Opus '73 and '74" year-end recaps counting down the top hits of the year (synidcated show) that ran on KOL-FM cuz I have 'checks of those shows with KOL-FM jingles. I loved that early top-40 FM -- most often Drake syndication. Just the thrill of hearing all those "AM hits" with two separate channels of sound! I bet everyone remembers putting on headphones for the first time with stereo feed....you're completely surprised! And the Drake no-nonsense presentation on those syndicated packages was a great alternative to when some dweeb you didn't like was running a shift on the AM top 40!!!
* in fact even on final KOL-AM day they were wrapping up the KOL all-jock-memory trainwreck so they could join the FM at 6p.
