Did some more picking at Goodwill bin stores and the last local thrift that still regularly sells home recorded tapes and found a few gems:
1) Tape labeled LA Laker + Seattle Supersonics and a bunch of scribble impossible to read BASF T130:
-1995/5/4 NBA Western Conference 1st RD Game 4 Seattle at LA Lakers (TBS) (1:49) missing some of first quarter
-1995/5/5 NBA Eastern Conference 1st RD Game 4 Orlando at Boston (TNT) (1:45) mostly complete with choppy editing in parts, this ended up being the last game at Boston Garden
-1995/5/5 NBA Western Conference 1st RD Game 4 Utah at Houston (TNT) (1:51)
(odd that the taper was sitting editing out commercials sometimes but sometimes not, also some halftime but not others, same with postgame)
-1995/5/11 Living Single 2x27 "Talk Showdown" WLFL22 (I believe this was the original airing)
-1995/5/11 New York Undercover 1x26 "Catman Comes Back" WLFL22 (original airing and season finale, I believe TV Tango listing for this night is incorrect as it shows they aired a rerun but this matches the prior Living Single episode, also missing last 15mins)
I found it interesting how TBS and TNT still aired a decent amount of local ad spots back then. I knew that ESPN did into the 2000s but not TBS and TNT.
2) Unlabeled tape though looked to be late 80s to early 90s Memorex tape stock a strange T120+ 10 minutes?
This was a full tape of syndicated episodes of Cheers from the 8th and 9th seasons all with commercials, and though I could not find exact airing dates, I'd guess late May to late June 1993 based on the commercials and movie trailers, with tons of spots for the upcoming Super Mario Bros craptastic bomb of a movie. Also many more promos for the classic Pauly Shore film Son in Law as well as the very short lived Chevy Chase Show. The episodes I could identify were: 8x8, 8x15, 8x16, 8x17, 8x18, 9x2, 9x1, 9x5, 9x9, 9x10, 9x11, and 9x13. These episodes aired on WTTG48/WNRW45 (Winston-Salem, NC) which I think simulcasted content from the FOX network, though WTTG48 was an independent station, I've actually found some stuff from that station before. Speaking of...
3) Unlabeled tape but some gibberish in pen scratched through many times on the tape box, the tape stock seemed early 80s heavy Scotch brand so I gave it a shot:
-1983/11/27 South Pacific 3 hour time block so a ton of commercials WGGT45 (basically the later named WNRW45)
-1983/11/27 Oklahoma WGGT45
Tracking got all wonky about 30 minutes into Oklahoma but it was nice to see something nearly 40 years old given how rare pre 1985 content is these days. Lots of holiday themed commercials for local businesses as this again was an indie channel so few national spots, just regional stuff.
4) I got this tape from a free bin at a local thrift store as many just give out the donated VHS tapes for free (those that don't just trash them directly) early to mid 80s BASF based on weight, tape was labeled Walt Disney The Canine Caper which was scratched through then "Parent Trap":
-1986/10/5 Wonderful World of Disney: "Little Spies" (1:40) all but 2 commercial breaks were cut, and the last few seconds and ending credits were clipped (WHSV-TV3 which is a very small market in Harrisonburg, VA). Like many of the non theatrically released Disney films that aired on TV, this was never released on home video officially. Did find a complete copy on Youtube in Russian so this was a nice find overall.
-1986 (unsure of exact date) "Parent Trap" (1:32) all commercials cut. I believe I have the exact same airing but from WPTF28.
-1986/10/7 The Last Frontier Part 2 of 2 (last 42 minutes with all commercials) (WUSA9) Another hard to find TV miniseries epic which the 80s was quite well known for.
-1986/10/7 WUSA9 11PM News (taper just let it go until it ran out so got a lot of the DC crime report)

15)
The majority of commercials had a football theme to them (even more so than usual for the Fall football season), especially McDonalds as it was running an NFL scratchoff collectible card game. I actually bought many of these cards decades later off of Ebay.
5) Tape labeled NBA All Star Game 1992 Scotch T120:
Overall I was quite surprised with the variety of content and time span included on this tape--
-1992/2/9 NBA All Star Game (WRDC 28) (1:40 missing most of 1st quarter and halftime) This was the famous one where Magic Johnson came back after his HIV announcement months prior. I still remember watching his press conference, as a 9 year old this was my first real experience with AIDS and I had a lot of questions for my parents that night. Little did I know that Freddy Mercury quietly announced he had AIDS at the same time as well and died within days.
-Oprah topic of interracial dating : 7 fragment but based on commercials I'd guess 1986) (WTVD11)
-Oprah death row teens (sometime in 1986 cannot find exact episode topic and dates) (WTVD11) : 51 so nearly complete)
-Oprah topic of prostitution : 49 so nearly complete 1986 also) (WTVD11) Remember when Oprah was as high brow as Jerry Springer and Maury Povich?
-"Fanny Hill" : 27 partial airing) based on the Cinemax promos I'd guess sometime in 1986 4 minutes of promos was a bonus
-1986/6/5 Disney Summer Classics Wonderful World of Disney The Apple Dumpling Gang : 54) (WTVD11)
I keep finding tons and tons of Wonderful World of Disney recordings, I'd guess the fact its something to watch with the kids later? I do remember recording a few as a kid in the late 80s so I guess that makes sense.
