Oldies 106.7 - Your Impressions?

amlover you could not have said it better, but I really can do without Imus. I do not listen in the am drive, I listen to the "regular Guy's", but they are quickly getting tiring. I am sick of hearing Steve say "come on'' , and how many women he porks.

I think Imus would have been added to any station, regardless of format just so the home office could say that Imus was "on in Atlanta". Hopefully, after a few months he can be moved or dropped in favor of a local morning show.

Just thinking out loud here, might this be an opportunity for Jimmy Baron? The music is up his alley, he has a fan base, he's local, he's not on the air now and at this point he may work cheap.

u gotta be kidding. jimmy is too good for this crap oldies station. it might be a good place to move trg tho.
;D

Read somewhere that Shannon has a personal collection of 1500-2000 oldies which is the foundation for the playlist. Thank goodness! Fox was great for 3 hours, but then you heard the same Beach Boys, Supremes, and Beatles songs. The only way you heard any of those true "classics" was when they had a theme weekend.

Trapped in an office where you can't get AM, FM reception is limited, and Internet streaming is banned, I've changed from 107.5 to 106.7. JZZ was getting too repeitious, too.

No, they won't spend any big money on big talent, but then that's not the intent of the station. The "star" (you'll pardon the expression, and please forgive the use of the term, lawyers for Lincoln Financial) should be the music. Right now it is and I hope they keep it that way.

Jimmy Baron as an "on-air" host? That is totally ludicrous. The man can talk, tell long, mildly amusing anecdotes, and be contentious, but he is NOT a show host. Let him rest in peace.

not to mention the fact that Jimmy Barron doesn't know squat about music, which, as another poster has pointed out, is the main attraction of the station. Imus needs to go away but if they really want a local morning host, they'd be better off luring Gary Mckee out of retirement than another worn out collection of Howard Stern clones.

its obvious u were never 99x.
if u'd ever listened to them u would know u r wrong.

I think Jimmy would do a fairly good job of it, he's a workman and serious about what he does. But, it's unlikely he needs money badly enough to work for what they might offer.
The move, should they dump Imus, would be to rehire Mitchell and put him on mornings. I don't think they'll change until Citadel makes some money, a circumstance which ain't gonna happen this year. Times are tight.

I've said it before, but that's not going to happen. Citadel's ABC Radio Network needs an Imus affiliate in Atlanta in order to get top dollar from national advertisers. In this case, the station is taking one for the company.

Assuming they make money ever again, and don't wind up with a "Q" hanging off the end of their ticker.

Remember, if you don't owe money, you can't go bankrupt. All a bad economy does is make bad financial decisions worse.

Gosh. That website sux. They're making the same mistakes that failed oldies formats have ALWAYS made.

If you really love 'True Oldies', give a listen to http://www.richbroradio.com.

I don't think so.

Jimmy didn't know squat about "alternative" but is familiar with the old stuff.

You are SOOOOOO right! They NEVER play any music..just commercials. (Sarcastic). :-\

I don't know what YOU'RE listening to, but when I tune in True Oldies, I get tons 'o tunes. No more commercials than anyone else and fewer than most.

Now that I've had time to spend with this station and listen for an hour here and there (instead of a few minutes while in the car), I have to give major props to their playlist. The deep cuts blow away what Fox 97 used to sound like. I can't believe how many songs they play that I've never heard before. It's wonderful. I don't like everything... still not a big fan of early 70's folkie cheese, but it's fantastic having an actual oldies station I can leave on without wanting to change the dial due to stale songs (hello The River).

I totally agree. I love this station The RIVER has run dry, it is a joke of a playlist.
