Oldies 93 still stunting

The link is back! On the bottom of the home page at www.931wolfcountry.com is a link to access the streaming player, and--- at least for now, anyway; who knows what they'll do when a full-fledged website is in place--- it takes you straight to the player without requiring a login. Stay tuned for further updates...

I'm about to go home, turn on the radio and listen to see what happens at 3pm. Since they did decide to flip/stunt early maybe there will be something said at this time. Oh well, I'm just hoping this is only a stunt and all Entercom is doing.... is 'Crying WOLF'

Well, we're nearing 3pm EST. Any predictions has to what is going to happen? Do you think that country will continue..or something else?

Thought everyone would like to see the latest, updated article about
WMQX in the Radio and Records website...

'The Wolf' Howls In Greensboro (Updated)
Oct. 04, 2006
By Ken Tucker

After a few days of stunting, Entercom oldies WMQX/Greensboro flips to country as “93-1 the Wolf.” Entercom has previously employed the Wolf persona at KWJJ/Portland, Ore., and KKWF/Seattle.

“We are looking for the very best in the format to fill on-air positions,” Entercom director of country programming Mike Moore tells R&R. “The Wolf will be the most dynamic radio station in Greensboro and we are interested in talking to anyone who has a history of winning.” T&Rs to PD Randy Bliss, 7819 National Service Road, Suite 401, Greensboro, NC 27409.

Clear Channel’s WTQR has long been the format leader in the market.

This came from Wade Jessen at R&R in the daily update for COUNTRY:

Wolf Tracks: On the heels -- or would that be "paws"? -- of yesterday's news that Entercom has flipped oldies WMQX/Greensboro to country as "93-1 the Wolf," the company's director of country programming, Mike Moore, checks in with R&R. "We are looking for the very best in the format to fill on-air positions," he says. "The Wolf will be the most dynamic radio station in Greensboro, and we are interested in talking to anyone who has a history of winning." T&Rs to PD Randy Bliss, 7819 National Service Road, Suite 401, Greensboro, NC 27409.

If you ask me, if it was a stunt, he wouldn't have done that!

It's after 3pm and no change. God it sounds awful and boring.

Its sort of like going on a blind date and finding that your worst fears were true......

Well, I'm not impressed, at all! Entercom may have taken plenty of time to get jingles, etc. in place...but the music mix is BLAH! I heard a recurrent this morning during the 6:00--6:30 am segment and then the same recurrent played during the 11:00--11:30 am segment. If they plan on beating TQR, they should have spent more time getting the music library and the music rotation right! They may end-up being the best thing since sliced bread, but right now, it's the same old stuff. Sounds to me like the corporate decision to kill Oldies 93 was just a lame shot in their own foot! For those of us, who have worked at MQX and TQR...it's just another sign that satellite radio is the real future of the industry!

They're also playing about the same songs they did yesterday and in about the same order.

If you're going to start a country station, at least don't sound like the competition (WTQR). They already play the same 40 songs over and over.

That is what I noticed this morning also. Like I used to hear back in the day growing up. "You have screwed up royaly this time."
I would like to stick that to Entercom.

Why goa fter a 500 year heritage station and do exactly what they are doin? You gotta have SOME angle or reason to tune over

Here it is 5:18 and there playing "Jesus Take The Wheel" again!!! They just played it around 2pm and if I'm not mistaken they played "Don't Forget to Remember Me" shortly after. Whoever is programming the music needs help!!!

Blame it on Selector!

Boy, I am cynical tonight. Sorry!

No...you don't blame it on Selector, you blame it on the person programming and editing Selector.

Someone said "God it sounds awful and boring". The same could be said about the old format. At least the music they're playing now hasn't been played over & over for the past 40 years and burnt out, at least not yet. There's been no mention of "Country Legends 98.3". Maybe they should change to an oldies format and pick up two or three of the old jocks from oldies 93 and call it oldies 98. This format change is exciting for this market. It giving us something to talk about and its great mental stimulation.

From what I've heard by listening online, just going by overall variety, quality, music selection, etc, this "Wolf" doesn't hold a candle to OLDIES 93.

WIST would be interesting for an Oldies station. If the signal was just a little better. I still think Oldies could maybe bring some much-needed success to the 94.1 frequency..

You are right- it has indeed given us something to talk about. Too bad NO ONE has had a positive comment about the flip. Even my wife, who is a country fan came in this evening and said "it sounds just like WTQR"...not a lot of incentive to abandon that you know and love, huh?
