O'Loughlin Resigns from WECK

I said OUCH because his photo was run with the listings. They usually only feature one photo per week. The listings, I agree, often take weeks to get rectified. Hopefully Brad called or emailed or faxed whoever over there to get it right for next week.

On a related note, I listened to the last few innings of the Yankees game and heard a promo for "The Late Nick Mendola" weeknights from 7 to 10 pm on WECK. It might sound nit-picky, but can they at least run promos that reflect the current on-air schedule?

I also heard a commercial with Bill O'Loughlin's voice but that may be staying in the rotation due to some contractual obligation with a client. If I was Bill I'd want them to re-record that but maybe he doesn't care and Dick and Brad have enough other things to worry about.

Is it me, or does WECK seem like a critical care patient who just had another heart attack?
Have to say you hit the nail on the head, jas. It's almost embarrassing the amount of time and space that W**K is given on this board. The station is on life support. It doesn't show up 25-54 and barely shows 12+. Meanwhile WYRK owns the market but except for a few posts, gets little mention. This is bizarro world.

Hey, I know, let's talk about WDCX. I went to a few weekend get togethers and everybody was listening to WDCX. I'll bet that station's gonna have a great book. [/sarcasm]

Brad Riter is going on vacation starting tomorrow. Anyone wondering if things will be changed even more when he returns next week?

Dick Greene will likely be running the show while Brad's down south. Don't be surprised if he addresses the 9 am to noon situation on WECK and the 4 pm to 7 pm time slot on WLVL.

When the boss is in the building, all hands on deck! Nick and Brad's buddies/interns better watch what they say, what they do and where they place their beverages in the on-air studio.

Anyone else think that Lorraine and Bill O may be doing coffee sometime this week to chat about their departures from WECK?

Bill O's reason for leaving has never been clearly explained either.

Coffee together? I can't think of two people who have less in common.

I get the distinct impression that Bill O quit WECK once he secured the ch. 2 deal, whereas Lorraine was booted.

Hello Gentlemen
First of all, it's LORAINE with one R...now that that's off my mind, I must say I have enjoyed reading all about your thoughts on local radio these past few months since I've discovered this page...even the negative digs about me...I'm not everyone's taste and that's all good. That's why we have CHOICES on the radio...or so I thought.
To clear the air, I was let go from WECK saying that the show "wasn't working" their decision...not mine. Most of the weekly features were things I lined up...and I have told them to please stay on WECK if they can to promote themselves..I hope they do since I really think they added to the station. The one thing I'd like to state here is the misconception that the only people who listened to my show were Theatre and arts people. That could not be further from the truth. My facebook page is also my fan page for the show...I can't tell you the number of e-mails I've already gotten from people I have never heard of...just listeners. Their support has really touched me and I thank them for that...and for listening. As for WECK...I really enjoyed my time there and don't know what the future will hold...I wish them the best. And as for the comment about Bill O and I having coffee...as Nene Leeks said about Star Jones on CELEBRITY APPRENTICE "I wouldn't spit on her if she was on fire."
Until the Buffalo news article appears:
All the best, Loraine O'Donnell

Loraine deserves a tip of the cap for responding. Very admirable.

Thanks for being open and honest.

You mentioned Buffalo News article. Does that mean an interview has been conducted or you're hopeful one will take place soon?

I think the possibility of you doing a talk show (if 9 am to noon wasn't going to work, I wonder if a midday show before Brad's would have been ideal if they moved Nick's show to mid-mornings) is something that is intriguing to some.

So now there is NO women voices on the staff. Not sure what to think about that. Is Brad building his own clubhouse and it says "NO GIRLZ ALLOWED" on the front?

Again, credit for speaking your mind and identifying yourself. Perhaps a cup of coffee in the future with Tom Schuh instead?

What possible ETHICAL issues could he have had with the station?

It's not like WECK airs some of the extremist crackpots that you hear on WBEN.

Is it perhaps those infommerical disguised as weekly guests on Nick's show?

This is what I'm wondering. He says his listeners and advertisers deserve an explanation. But, I think his explanation needs an explanation. I don't get it

1. Did anyone else notice that billy boy quit the day WECK announced that they would have Shelly Shratz on the morning show to talk about the election results? Their rivalry goes way back. He probably saw that as a slap in the face, because according to Bill, the world revolves around Bill, so obviously WECK asked Shelly to come on to ruin Bill's day.
2. Apparently he didn't like comments made by Loraine on the morning show. My guess is because they were said by a woman. Have you ever heard what Bill talks about on his show? Talk about inappropriate!
For someone that claims to be a professional, neither his show or the way he left was very professional.
What a loser.

WECK is probably better off with both Bill and Loraine gone. Both proved to be unprofessional and not good at their jobs.

Those crude attack ads on Bauerle, and constantly bragging about how WBEN is scared makes WECK look really foolish now...

I'm not so sure about the validity of this Shelly Schratz theory. The fact is Shelly's son was producing Bill's show. Would Bill have even allowed that if he was on the "outs" with Shelly? Obviously, ARC, you have some inside knowledge about their relationship. But again, I can't imagine that he would work with Shelly's son on a daily basis yet would then quit because she appeared on the morning show.

As I've stated, Bill was a lousy general talk show host. He needs to stick with what he knows best, and that's doing an investments show.

I'll also admit that I always liked Loraine. Because of my own life circumstances, I haven't listened to her show much in the past year. But before that, I would tune in once or twice a week and found her to be entertaining, especially during the Friday film reviews. The article in this morning's "News" claims WECK management didn't think the morning show was working. What wasn't working was Billy O.

WECK has to be pleased with the coverage the station is getting in the "News." Remember, even bad publicity is good. Listeners could be checking out the station to find out what the hub-bub is all about. But I would argue Corey Griswold and Tom Donahue is not the answer. Tom needs to be partnered with a name broadcaster. Neither is day old Dennis Miller. Brad needs to do something soon. But he's on vacation. The timing couldn't be worse. They should have kept Loraine in place at least until his return. I just don't think your PD should be enjoying time off when the station is self-imploding.

Right now, WECK is a laughing stock and a train wreck. I tuned in for a minute yesterday, heard day-old Dennis Miller and went on to something else. I just don't see a bright future here.

Bill O has NO respect for ANY WOMEN. Especially strong women. Shelley and I fit that category. Bill was abrasive and RUDE from the start and anyone who calls him on it is his enemy. I had Shelley on several times...she is a friend of mine and she is politically opposite me so it made for great conversation. Bill without knowing she was a friend bad-mouthed her to me and I put him in his place...years ago when they were both working for the Town of Amherst he threatened Shelley when she didn't vote his way, finding her alone in a room he cornered her saying "I'll ruin you". Shelley turned to him and said "Bill, the only person I fear is God." and walked away. And that, ladies and gentlemen is why I want to be Shelley when I grow up. And good luck with this whole "Talk radio on the TV" Bill...even Howard Stern couldn't make it work...PRETTY SURE it won't work for you...even without the tie.
