That is the original Omnia.FM with the HOT and Space EFX cards installed. I don't think he will be able to sell many at that price. The going rate in the U.S. for original Omnia.FM is around $2500-$3000. No doubt it was the first digital box that sounded analog (no aliasing or grunge), but there are far better boxes out now! We had one of the first Omnia.FM's back in 1997, and I later tried the Hot and Space EFX options. The Omnia 6 and Optimod 8500 will blow the doors off of the Omnia.FM, but if the guy would lower the price he should sell them with no problem! I have two stations with the Omnia 6EXI and everyone loves them! Rumor is that Omnia 6 will be replaced with something new at NAB!

>rumors among engs i've talked to is the dsp-xtra with built in Ariane sequel leveler is causing concern at Omnia.incredible box at half the price of the o6.i have both boxes and the extra has better agc and is louder than the o6 ex..IMHO Ariane is by far the best preprocessor ever built.i expect omnia will do something to replace the aging O3T as well.nothing like good subjective processing discussions ....both great systems and tops in processing guru's...

I'd like to see an 03T upgrade with better presets and maybe some type of stereo enhancement for better presence.

BTW: For the 03T users out there; how much composite clipping are you using (composite drive)? Now that I've got computer access up to the site I've been tweeking the processing a bit this weekend via the remote software.

We use 3 3fmt's. An upgrade would be good, with a fix for a lazy AGC. I love the grittyness of the original Omnia. The 3fmt should upgrade to the 4 band structure of the omnia with the new DSP. Bring back the smooth sound on the vocals Frank!!!

We didn't run too much composite clipping with our O3T. There is a noticable loudness/tradeoff with this box. Best results I got were from running the limiters dense to build tight peak to average control.

I would think a replacement entry level from Frank is coming. There are other low price processors that sound really great, DSP-X, Inovonics Omega is now around $5k etc.

Re: omnia clipping

I exclusively use Omnia 3fmt units at all my plants. For me, they are the best sounding processors I have ever used.

I don't use much comp clipping...+0.5 at the most on all my stations. I use a modified "dense" setting, backing down the final mix levels a couple of clicks, setting my pilot at 9% (using the stations' mod monitor)...and seems to give me the loudness without the grunge. Reason for backing down the final mixer is because I am using an old exciter, and has a problem with overshoot...so by backing things down a bit, prevents those little peaks from happening. I am also a believer that the "loudness war" ended with the introduction of digital tuners, and I'd rather have quality than loud any day.

I have 6 radio stations that I am in charge of...2 am's and 4 fm's, and out of those, I have 4 stations sitting at #1 and #2 positions in their markets and all using Omnia.

Replacement for Omnia-6? Hmm, interesting...
