Yes, I saw it on yes.com right after I mentioned it here. I knew it was going to happen - always the case! I say something (or say something should happen) and then shortly after I find out it just started happening or it starts the next day. ALWAYS seems to happen to me these days, and not only when it comes to music... maybe I could take advantage of this and use it for wishful thinking.... actually no. That could lead to trouble...
ANYWAY, I finally heard it on the radio on the way home today and I have some things to say about it... I was actually walking home with my walkman on 101.5 JamZ listening to the mix when something I didn't care too much for came on, then this thread about GaGa, in addition to what I saw on yes.com yesterday, popped into my mind. I immediately changed to Kiss FM and BAM! "pokerface" was playing. After actually listening and paying close attention to detail and production of the song, I have to say I do agree with what some people are saying and their reasons for why they feel like it's not the best for a second single release. There are just some parts of the song that should be removed or replaced with Flo Rida rapping instead. I could see it making its way to some daily most requested station countdowns for a short while, but not being a long lasting hit. The song could have been made a bit better with some moderate improvements. I like to see people just put out full blown creativity and their own style, but... don't overdo it, especially if you're looking for radio play with a dance music styled song. It's a bit too different from the rest of the pop/dance songs out, and the people who don't care for this song will blame it on the fact that it sounds like "techno" and then it will only further feed their stereotype for why "techno sucks" in their mind. So far we've been doing a good job at convincing the younger American public that "techno isn't all that bad". I think as a dance song, some parts of that song should have been "toned down" a bit, or just left out all together. I still doubt though that this one song will do any damage to the trend in dance music. Too many other dance styled hits coming to let this one song make or break it. It may actually help, due to its timing of being released. It still stands out a bit to me on the radio though. I think Rihanna and Britney are playing it smart the way they have their stuff done. They keep it a bit edgy, but simple. Ne-yo was pretty clever too. The first time I heard it I wasn't sure if it would work, but hopefully he looks at the success of that hit and keeps that style in mind when he looks to create more new stuff... "Just dance" was a perfectly timed, perfect first single for the Lady. I have no idea what "poker face" will do. Possibly, almost the same results as what happened with Craig David "fill me in", although I feel that Craig David's song was more rhythmic/top 40 radio friendly. "Poker face" has the right elements and a good melody, but too many unnecessary lyrics and a few other things throughout the song. I still love her though.
