One station you want back

Since the topic is the One station you want back I am only allowed to list one. Although I miss many I will list one that I don't think has been mentioned, WNAR 1110 Norristown. I was thinking of starting a topic of the One station you wish never existed.....I would list WDVR WEAZ WBEB 101.1 since it prevented me from receiving WCBS FM. If I were allowed to list several stations I wish never existed I would include the religious and foreign program stations. I see many people have listed many stations they miss. I would like to see airchecks posted but most people (for some unknown reason) never recorded any of their favorite radio stations. Seems even radio stations and radio station DJs do not have any recordings either? Why?

WJJZ 106.1 (a la the way it sounded in 1993) and "Wish" 560 (1991 to 1993).

Was that in the Smooth Jazz days? I think it's a shame that format has fallen on hard times.

Yes, WJJZ went on the air in March of 1993 with a very strict contemporary jazz/new age format. By the time they went off the air in the mid and late 2000's, there was hardly any resemblance to how it sounded in 1993. There were R&B and soft rock vocals galore and only a handful of tired instrumentals. So thus I'm saying I wish for the WJJZ of 1993 back. Or even '94 thru maybe '96. It really only started getting bad around '97. Then really went in the crapper in the 2000's.

WIBG-99

To list a few other choices:

WFIL-Famous 56
WIFI-92
95PEN-WPEN in the Geoff Fox era

Would that be the same Geoff Fox that who is now a meterologist on WTIC-TV in Hartford? I do believe he got his start in Philadelphia.

I have to say WIOQ Progressive Rock, WIFI (top 40 rock?) and WYSP in most any music format they had...could handle O & A for part of the day.....Best Rock format would be the one they had at the end adding in newer rock, but not some of the garbage that is cropping up on on MMR whenever I hear .....NEW MUSIC>>>>. Always liked MMR though.

If I was CBS and owned WYSP, I would have kept the rock and slowly added Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, all while pushing HD radio, getting them into the hands of listeners via promotions, then utilize HD channels for overflow music and sports programing and ultimately HD-3 simulcast of 610. I'd have my listeners switching between the various WYSP satations and KYW, WPHT and 610. WOGL would have the HD streams for KYW and WPHT. The Phillies 24-7 would be on WOGL as well. Would also work on that Xmas music format during the off season and have at it again next year.

I would also focus on the best possible sound quality in both HD and streaming. Streaming would be at 64kb AAC and WMA for people listening in cars and also a 128kb stream in same formats for people listening at home. One of the best things I always thought about WYSP was that it had better sound than the other rock stations. Maybe that comes from my impression the first time I heard WYSP in quad with chime sounds in the background, though I never heard actual quad.

Right now, I listen to WIP-HD3, sports and talk stations & KYW and stream 98Rock from Baltimore....They do a nice job with their HD2 classic rock station...Also stream WMGM in Atlantic City in the car.

WYSP - Modern Rock, less classic rock.
WPLY - Alternative with some modern rock (Seether, Alterbridge, Evanescence and Sixx AM are examples of Modern Rock - They put out some songs released in late 2011 - The Used already put out a single in 2012)
WNUW - Same format it was before.

I agree with the person before saying, they would like to WYSP back, but with newer song playlists: Like he said, Seether, Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Theory of A Deadman and Nickelback, just to name a few. like play the top 30 new songs and play oldies in between. WMMR continaully plays the same old songs everyday and has their favorites who get on all the time, like Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam,(now we are being shoved down our faces, Van Halen's new song and their old songs too. ENOUGH!!! PLEASE IN THE PHILLY AREA IF YOU ARE TIRED OF THE SAME SOLD,. SAME OLD, PLEASE WRITE INTO THIS AND ASK FOR WYSP, but with a newer kick so we can hear the new songs out there. Thanks

Yeah, we got that from the same post on the other thread. :). Ain't happening at 94.

As much as I'd like, CBS won't do it. You'll have to be happy with MMR, RFF and STW for new rock.

Unless one of Radio One's FMs are put up for sale and get bought by another company not in market, or by someone without a Rock Format and no other ideas, nobody is going to put an active rock format into Philly (unless CC wants to flip)
