One-Year Anniversary for AN 106.7

I wonder if they'll be making enough revenue in a couple years to send the infomercials back to WGST. I think the decision to add them was a smart one; because of the infomercials, AN106.7 has a better chance in the longterm of staying alive.

Once you've established a revenue stream, it's hard to give it up. Probably have to kill at least one sales weasel to get it done. Dumping the infomercials also assumes that ratings will improve in the months ahead... a year since launch, and not much is changing audience wise... appears to have stalled out short of a 2.

BTW... "one-year" anniversary... one of my pet grammatical peeves. The word anniversary makes "year" redundant. First anniversary, tenth anniversary, etc. is all that's needed. Unless you're one of the idiots who insists there's such a thing as a six month anniversary or a four week anniversary, for which you should be forbidden from ever using the English language again.

I would hope they would perform better, but so far, they seem to be a nonentity. I am wondering if their listening bases is exclusively the posters on this site.

I think it's way too soon to say it's "stalled out." Building an all news station is a 5 to 7 year project. The only thing that will stall this out is Cumulus getting cold feet. With patience, WSB habits and the tendency to associate news with bloviation will eventually be broken.

I'd say six months with little to no ratings gain qualifies as stalled out. They need to do something to kick things up a notch. History does not favor Cumulus sitting on its corporate hands for 5-7 years based on such glacial advancement.

Something to analyze...they started their first full month out .8 6+, and they've had a 50% ratings gain since then. AND: not to be forgotten, they're making a whole heck of a lot more with All News than they were as oldies.

Most of that 50% ratings gain took place in the first few months after launch. Things have been pretty stagnant for 2013, which suggests they've maxed out their audience based on what they're doing now, and could use a booster shot, possibly in the form of an increased ad campaign as other posters have suggested. As far as income... do you know this for a fact or are you assuming it? I don't doubt that their billing exceeds what Oldies was doing, but their operational expenses are MUCH higher.

Making more money? Much higher staff costs, much higher production costs, and lousy numbers which limits what they can charge. And this somehow equates to making more money... how?

NO! More money as oldies. No overhead, just morning and afternoon drive and the rest from True Oldies. They actually had better numbers as oldies as opposed to Country. They do have a good news product though.

All News formats do have more opportunities for commercials verses most music formats: 50 minutes of favorites, 10 in row etc. If you play 3 30's @ $25 each or 1 30 @ $75, not much difference. Agency commercials are easily put in most modern systems. The real issue is the cost of staff.

IMHO, any operator that starts an All News should be prepared for 3 to five years of financial pain. I guess that Cumulus is willing and can afford the startup financial pains.
