Oops, he did it again...

yay, verily, peace will come upon the waves that undulate through the atmosphere, for Pacman will pray for the shameless Imus.

So it was reported, so let it be done.

Question. With Big Dan's age being a factor in his ending doing a regular show and the claims that Imus is too old. Who are the next Big Dan's, I-Man's, etc., coming from. I don't hear any out there in radioland.

Well, that's where the idea of a form of entertainment winding down kicks in. Accept it as being as inevitable as the death of vaudeville--and if anyone wants to "keep it alive", it's in an artisan, museological spirit more than anything.

Of course, you can stretch the definition by deeming George Carlin a vaudevillean act...

You're right, Imus does belong to an era that doesn't exist anymore. Amazingly enough, he also has a major role in today's world of radio as well. Very few (maybe none at all) have been such key players in different eras. As far as his being "old and irrelevant," that is only your opinion. It is certainly not a fact. If you listen to his show, you will see (and hear) that some of today's leading commentators and media personalities totally disagree with you and are very pleased to be a part of his "irrelevance."

So yeah, call me ageist if you want.

You're right about that too. You are blatantly ageist.

When you look at the guest list for Imus and the revenue generated by his show, he obviously still has a place in media today. It is unfortunate, however, that we don't have the next generation of talented, informed radio hosts/interviewers ready for when this generation passes.

I'm looking at radio nowadays and maybe one show is local...the rest are all syndicated shows from somewhere else. that's what I mean...not how it used to be in Imus' day when there were alot of people given shots. So, it's all the proven talent who have been around for ages that gets the gigs now, isn't it? Even Ryan Seacrest is syndicating and people are finding their gig is gone in favor of ole Ryan.
I have nothing but sympathy for the kids - it's much harder for them. Even college radio ain't what it used to be. College stations used to be full of kids. Now all I hear are alot of former commercial people taking over college radio airwaves.
