Opie and Anthony Must Go!!!

This post will be quite unusual for me, because I normally do not deliver blunt opinions on this board.

Despite a post on this board reporting that Opie and Anthony have "called off" their "Assualt On The Media", I don't think some of their fans will obey, and may continue to harass TV news reporters.

It is time for XM to do the right thing and let these two slimeballs go. Their "show" is increasingly disgraceful, and given all those "Assaults On The Media" climaxing with one which could leave a TV reporter with permanent damage to his hearing, they have no business remaining on XM (or anywhere else).

XM should terminate these idiots now!!

They clearly stated in their ads and whenever they promoted the assault on the media to not touch the reporters and not curse but some listeners just take it too far. They should not be kicked off xm for this, they are the best show on there.

According to someone that SAW the assault on the media, the airhorn was NOWHERE NEAR the reporter's ear and it was aimed more to their side. Yes, I have had airhorns blown near me, next to me, by me...from a LONG standing boating family, I know how powerful they are. We'll wait and see how "real" the ear damage really is.

According to O&A, they had received a call from a reporter that was "assaulted" Friday. After a long talk with Eric Logan, it was decided that it has played it course and for the safety of eevryone, they shelve the whole promotion. The guy who conducted the airhorn assault was on the phone the next morning and they ignored him. They hadnt mentioned it, talked about the assaults at all. They were in the midst of figuring out how to kill the promotion softly. The man who had conducted the MOST assaults was in studio on Friday and they still didn't mention it. they wanted it to quietly go into the sunset.

Their fans will obey. We are loyal fans and don't wish to put anyone in harm's way and we certainly don't want to get them fired again.

BLOCK THE CHANNEL!!!

I very rarely post on this message board, but, I read it all the time. I had to reply this DRIVEL, because it makes me sick when band wagon jumpers like this jump up and call for a firing when they know nothing of the show or the circumstances surrounding the event. I'm trying to remain civil, so, since you don't usually offer blunt opinions like this, may I civilly suggest that it was poor judgment to hop on this little soapbox.

The Opie and Anthony show is far and away the best platform for comedy out there today. As well as a stand alone energetic and creative show that I don't think anything even has a chance of coming close to.

I saw this happen in 2002 to the show and entertainment, at least for me, was just awful w/o O and A. Someone took the AOTM too far. OK. It was a good promotion, but, it was also a learning experience. Sometimes the fans are not acting in the best interest even if they think they may be. Let it go.

Joseph, you don't understand the show and the fans.

Here's the situation...

Joe, first, we don't know all the facts. Everyone is claiming that Anthony Johnson could go deaf but not ONCE in any single article I've seen said that Anthony went to the hospital. Usually that would be the first stop in a situation like this.

There's no video existing of what happened. There's nothing.

If in fact that Anthony Johnson had a blown eardrum, his ear would have been bleeding, and that constitutes assault. However, the cops did not charge the person involved with anything.

Hell, he didn't even get charged with Disorderly Conduct!!

Dick Codey, god bless 'im, is somewhat craving of attention, so I have NO F'N IDEA why he got involved in this mess.

Opie and Anthony had standing orders from the VP of XM Programming to kill the contest on Friday. So they did. They didn't touch on it on Monday or Tuesday.

The fans crave VALIDATION from the hosts, which is why the AOTMS went to such great lengths. Now that they've said the contest is over, and they've told the fans not to do it, they won't. Why? Because O&A won't put it on the air and they won't get the validation.

Even if AOTMS happen, again, O&A won't put it on the show, so the pestholes won't get the attention they want, and it eventually burns itself out.

And even if another AOTM goes too far, O&A and XM can claim "none on us" - they said the contest was over, and they said not to do it anymore.

Joseph,
Normally your opinions seem well thought out and like they come from the mind of an intelligent person but this post doesn't. O and A did nothing wrong, they did not tell this idiot what to do, they just said to get the fact that the show is on XM out there and, said specifically not to touch, fight with, or harm in any way the reporters.

Good God Man!

Please don't soil this board with your hack Wackbag.com jokes.

Another avenue to look at here...

Don't radio shows like this generally make alliances with shows such as these, in a combined effort to draw publicity to each other? Isn't it odd that their assaults continually hit the same channel (this channel). The wrench was that someone reported the nonstop assaults to the governor of new jersey. While they are playing it up as real, some of it smells like a bit to take some attention away from Stern in his last few days on Infinity. For instance, yesterday they had to take an hour meeting in the middle of their show? Hello...that's just not how things work in radio - people are fired, suspended, etc. off air - not live DURING their show. The boys practically begged for coverage in all the trade places, and got no traction on it other than an article in the daily news - no FMQB, no rronline, not even any real traction here. Yes, the governor made a comment about reporters being attacked, but aside from saying something, he can't do anything. Further, this attempt to take attention away from Stern didn't work so well. I love the boy's show far more than any of the garbage hoo hoo has done in a decade, but this just feels like a bit to me. Not saying I'm right...just calling it the way I see it.

Re: BLOCK THE CHANNEL!!!

Overman:

The title of your response was "Block The Channel!".

For the benefit of those reading this board, is there any way that an XM subscriber can have reception of the Opie and Anthony channel blocked, so you can't receive it??

If it can be done, this might end up being the best solution of all.

*ANY* XL channel can be blocked. Hence the designation. You call XM Customer Service. O&A play a sweeper for a disclaimer about the content of the show and channel and how channel blocking is available through XM Customer Service.

So, you're saying that O&A somehow got WABC, whatever township in NJ's police department, the Star-Ledger, the New York Post, WCBS, WINS, and the acting governor of New Jersey to conspire to fake the whole thing?

My answer to that? No.<P ID="signature">______________

Personally, I think O&A stink. But, they have millions of fans who should not be deprived of hearing them if they choose. After all, that's what brought most of us to XM anyway......choice

If you can't stand 'em, do what I do.....don't go there. Allow them to broadcast how they want to. The free market will dictate if they are to make it.

Re: BLOCK THE CHANNEL!!!

There is a way to do so, onehas to call XM's listener care to have channels blocked...
