From what I've been reading Sirius-XM is drowning in a sea of red ink. How that company has managed to pay Stern and the countless other "celebrities" is beyond me.
Howard's hinting that he may quit Sirius could very well be that he knows first-hand that this experiment in satellite radio, while a unique idea, won't last unless there is a major infusion of cash or a take over of Sirius by other investors.
Remember back when FM radio was a novelty? What happened that allowed FM to grow? Simple! Car companies started installing FM radios in all of their models; thus anyone buying a car could now hear FM. If the same thing happened to satellite radio that might be the financial shot in the arm that business needs.
Of course the way to fund satellite radio is for car companies to charge more for the price of their cars, and then give a small percentage over to Sirius-XM. Those terms of course would have to be worked out, but it could be done. To some this might sound like a crazy idea, but it worked for FM radio and it might be the savior for satellite radio. After all I personally haven't seen a major rush of people subscribing to satellite radio.
