Opie & Anthony Returning To Live 105.3?

O & A are greatness. I don't understand why everybody does not like them. I will grant you that they are Stern knockoffs but still entertaining. Jim Norton is hilarious. I would not argue getting Corolla on.

Either way, Martin is not going anywhere. I have seen a lot of posts on this and it just is not going to happen. There are so many examples of why he won't.

I saw someone post somewhere else the Leykis example. That guy has beat like three women. Another post gave an example of a child molester that was fired but continued to work.

I will put my money on format flip. But I have been saying this for a while so I could be wrong (as I usually am.)

It's amazing to me how people think Russ will still be on the air in Dallas. What is it you all don't understand about the public opinion court and negative publicity for a radio station? If KLLI is dumb enough to retain Martin, the whole station is history. The outcry from the public would do the station in.

Tape delay Adam Carolla after Jagger. Is Don and Mike still on? If so them from 2-6. By then Leykis is already in progress. After Leykis, BDH. Then Lovelines live. Now you only have 3 hours of fill time. Good Luck with that.

This only if CBS doesnt dump the format.

Of course I could be wrong. ;D

Don and Mike have split up.

From what I understand about the ratings, they are losing listners anyway-so why not put him back on? What do they have to lose? I, for one, hope that they don't put him back on, but I would be very surprised if they kept him off. Jagger this morning said Russ will be back on Monday, not that that really means anything, but it's out there.

Jagger said that was his opinion. It was an "unofficial" announcement.

They stand to lose advertisers, that's what.

They should just air an audio test pattern. Now that would be entertainment.

That reminds me of a personal story from back in my college days. A group of us had been partying in our apartment all night, and were pretty much staring into space (you can imagine), when the test tone for the Emergency Broadcast System came on as the sun was beginning to peak over the horizon. One of the group, in all earnestness, said to no one in particular, "What album is this on, anyhow?" 8)

I would be glad if they went back to Opie and Anthony. I love whenever they have Patrice O'Neal on.
That was the only time I ever enjoyed their show. I would listen between Howard, since I had never heard thier show. Patrice is hilarious!!! Also Jim Norton is pretty funny too. His HBO special was great.

Do advertisers not have access to ratings? I have never worked in radio, so I don't know how it works. But, if the station's ratings are taking a dive they are going to lose advertisers, so again, I ask, what do they have to lose? Is it a case of them losing advertisers quicker of RM comes back? If they played their cards right, they could parlay this RM thing into a ratings bonanza. Lets face it-I don't think they powers that be at 105.3 would be above that kind of thing. They could bill extra high for spots on the day he returns because you know the listnership will be really high on that day.

O & A have been dumped off the station not once but twice for poor ratings. They just don't go over very well here in Dallas.

From my understanding, those poor ratings came as a result of their time slot (5am-8am) and how that straddled the reporting periods. I don't know why they have to stick with 3am-6am and 6am-10am to record the ratings for radio shows, but I think they should get one more chance in a solid time slot. I could see them taking over middays if only temporarily.

I dunno what else Live plans to put there, especially if they kick Russ out. Dan O'Malley? BDH? The Mich? (Sayyyyyy...)

Not true. The first stint (the afternoon show) was ended on Live and their other stations after the Sex for Sam contest brouhaha.

More recently, they were replaced in the mornings because of low ratings, but the show, as others have pointed out, was only on during the awkward 5-8 slot. I believe the show has improved significantly since they first relaunched it on the CBS stations (including Live) in 2006. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see O&A pick up the midday slot in P&K's absence.

At the end of the day though, I feel like Opie and Anthony still work better in the afternoon than morning.

Glad you admitted you don't know how radio works, as that will help me better explain it for you.

Basically, advertisers don't want their products associated in any way with negative publicity. Let me give you a real world example. When Stan Freeberg's holiday hit Green Christmas first came out, advertisers did not want their spots airing near that song.

Fast forward to today, and you have a jock who's reputation has been severely tarnished because he's been charged with a 2nd degree felony. So even if Martin is cleared in the court of law, the court of public opinion requires far more damage control.

No advertiser wants to be associated with a jock who's got as severe of a tarnished reputation as Russ. If KLLI does bring him back, you can bet the advertisers during his show will want out. It makes them look bad to potential customers, if they try to hang around with the show. They'll lose customers who have ruled Russ guilty in their public opinion.

Oh Lordie, PLEASE not the Mich! How about Dr. Laura from 3-7.

heh.

Just kidding.

AHHH. I'm VERY happy where I'm at. Don't plan on returning to on air radio any time soon. Thanks for boosting my ego! My wife really thanks you guys for that! I do believe I was more entertaining than Dr. Laura though. Not near as rich, but much more at peace with myself. Cue the Buddhist chants...
