Opinions on WRKO...

Is this a good thread for me to post this story on? I'll say yes. WRKO program director Bob Henabery had come to Los Angeles in June 1966 so he could hear Boss Radio 93/KHJ and he wrote a detailed analysis of KHJ's format, clock, jingles, promos, newscasts and DJs. It's included in a lengthy essay by Mel Phillips about the March 1967 launch of the top-40 format at 68/RKO. I posted the link on the Los Angeles forum but I thought it should be posted here too. And now it is:

Thanks for posting this. Very enjoyable and interesting read.

There used be a BIG 680/RKO tribute site with all kinds of info and air checks. I haven't seen it up in a while anyone have a working link for it?

You have done us all here a huge favor by sharing this! THANK YOU!!!

I recall those days of 1966-67, as I was in my last year of high school and getting ready for college. (Yes, 98.5 WRKO-FM did indeed reach southern RI where the Univ. of RI, my alma mater, is located.)

In those days, RKO-General management, despite any faults of their corporate parent, knew how to run radio stations. Would that we had some of their successors who could produce similar - or better - results today!
