Howie was relevant in 2007 (7 years ago, BTW... a lifetime in radio.) Today, you're confusing relevance with "stuck between a rock and a hard place." What else was WRKO going to do? If you stay the course, you don't have to make tough decisions in the short term. However, it doesn't help you in the long term, as evidenced by what's happening today.
If I were the owner of an AM station with no format of value, I'd be looking to unload the station to whoever would buy it and cut my losses, 'cause those stations aren't getting any more valuable. Prices will only continue to decrease. If there were a format of value, I'd work on transitioning it to more relevant delivery platforms (See WEEI.)
