Exactly..."if you want me, just whistle. You do know how to do that, don't you? Just put your lips together and blow." They only used the first sentence in their "whistle" montage. :-*
When I heard WHSL it was album rock. It could have been top 40 once.XTalker said:They just don't make 'em like that anymore! What a great movie!
As an aside, the WHSL calls and "Whistle" moniker were first used in Wilmington in the 60s. 1490AM. I think Dusty Dunn worked there at one time. Calls moved to the FM is the 70s. Always thought they were great calls for a Top 40 station.
MaskMan said:As for 100.3, calls for Joy-100 were WOJY, and for The Fox was either WFXF or WFXC. They were looking at both calls at one time and I can't remember which one actually became their calls. Think it was WFXC.
I was referring to the Wilmington station. Sorry.berlin201 said:That must have been a long time ago; the "Whistle 100" I remember (mid- to late 90s) was country until they swapped signals with 94.5 in 2001. By the time I first heard of 94.5, they were WGBT "94.5 The Beat."
MaskMan said:Hmmm....must have been WFXF. It was called the Fox and had a really cool format that wasn't really allowed long enough to catch on. Our new owners wanted a Country station...WHSL. Of course once Clear Channel bought the group killed WHSL to protect WTQR (It became WVBZ The Buzzard). THEN they changed 94.5 from Rock Alternative to Country!!!! They felt they needed to maintain another Country station that they could control and that would never be too popular. It was really kind of amusing to watch them keep the station just bad enough not to compete with WTQR. How'd you like to be THAT PD? How'd you like to be THAT sales staff? :![]()
