Our Prayers, Thoughts and Condolences...

Ironic you bring up my *situation* as I was talking with Andy Waldrop about that this morning when I got the news. I was reminded of the last time I saw John. It was at my Dad's funeral. He was as undone as any of my immediate family members. Me, Holly, Tiffany and Joey were so touched. Dad was very fond of John, and Jay Walker. They had so much fun doing the morning show at KSNN.

Anybody know of Jay's whereabouts? * I am speaking of the Jay Walker that worked at KSNN, KEGL, and <I think> WLS.

Josh,
I just got the news about John.
Man, I just don't know what to say......
I'll e-mail you.

John was and remains One of a kind. "KIND" that was John. I remember when he flew for Shadow, how he would always ask me what the weather was going to be,since I had a knack for predicting it right a majority of the time . One day he and I both worked a police chase he in the air,I in the mobile unit. The chase went from Tarrant to Dallas county back to Tarrant. Once I got in the chase itself he had to leave it due to air restrictions, and I would feed him the information to relay it back to the studio, and even the exclusive when the felon was captured, only a few yards from where I was he was a grateful, and always gave credit where credit is due. He made Traffic.com Dallas an admired place to work for. I saw John last February at the DFW Radio Luncheon. He looked tired but still he was the warm friendly guy, always asking how you were and what could he do for you.
John McCarty deserves induction into The Texas Radio Hall of Fame, he served DFW well, and he did broadcasting a high honor for being part of it.

Very sad to hear this news. I was fortunate to work under John when traffic.com first started up in Dallas (do they still have that same office over on Empire Central?). I was still in college at the time, but John helped me out by allowing me to sit in rush-hour traffic at 5am Monday-Friday. He was a great guy and introduced me to radio by talking about the business and allowing me to fill in for Tim on KLIF on occasion (even when the morning show producer would tell me I sounded "bored"). For a kid just starting out in the business, I can honestly say that John was one of the coolest guys I've ever worked for and that he made work fun. If it wasn't for his kindness and patience, I might not be in the same position that I am today.

I guess it's only fair to admit that there were mornings where I would grab Chick-Fil-A and take a nap in the Office Depot parking lot. Sorry, John, but it's true. Not quite sure if he would have been ok with that, though :)

Good to see that Matt also posted here. I was fortunate to work with Matt in his LD Bell Drumline days and am hurt by his loss. You were always a tough kid and I'm happy to see this outpour of love for your father. He meant a lot to a number of people.

Thanks again, John. You'll be missed.

I too am saddened by this news. I met John once about a year after I started on KFWR. He met Tom Bigbee and I at the Meachem Airport and had us and a guest flown to Texas Motor Speedway for a race...After that we'd talk occasionally when he'd fill in traffic for us from time to time. From my experience he was a hell of a great guy, I'm sorry I didn't get to know him better.

I never had the privilege of working with John; I just missed him at Traffic Patrol and again at Metro. I did finally meet him at a luncheon given by the Council of Governments (?) for all the traffic reporters. Everyone always spoke kindly of John, and I'm sorry I didn't get to know him better.

Rest well, John.

I worked with John in 1996 as KEWS Radio was starting up. He had a great attitude as we all took on the challenge of building a new radio station from scratch, and always was a nice guy and a real pro. He'll be missed.

It's certainly a very sad day...John was a very nice man. I've know John for many years and worked with him at KSNN/Sunny 95 & ABC Radio...where one of my funniest memories of him is the Sunday afternoon he was working an airshift and finally, after many, many tries, figured out how to get the Cowboys game on the studio computer! It was a great day for all of us!

John was a sweet man, a good friend and a wonderful radio guy...I think of him and smile.

is this the same john mccarty that hosted the saturday 70's show a few years ago? i enjoyed listening to that show here locally in the centralia/chehalis area of washington state. that was a show that played all the songs of the 70's....that show is missed and so will john....my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends

Yes, the very same. John did the 70s show from the ABC Radio Networks studios here in Dallas every Sat night. Apparently ABC switched the show to an 'all 80s' format (but not sure if it was moved to one of the other syndie formats..."70s" was on the old "Star Station.") John would be the first to tell you that he was no big fan of 80s music, and left ABC a short time later. That was pretty recently, like maybe the end of 2007.

I realize that this is well past the memorials and such, but it has taken me a bit to understand the magintude of this loss in our industry and in our lives.

I had the privelage of working with John at Shadow, and remember listening to him on Star 105.3 as well as other stations. I knew I was working with someone with intigrity, and with substance... and I also knew that if ever there was a person who would tell you the strait skinny... it was John!

I have had the honor of working with many great people in this business, from my first job with traffic reporting and working with Tim Hawkins, and then later with John McCarty... and in both of their cases.. they lleft us way too soon in their lives, and OUR lives are better and richer for knowing them and calling them friend.

I will miss John, I will miss his laughter, and I will miss his abilty to make each of us a bit better at our job.

To his family and his extended family who worked with him... My heartfelt condolences, and my wishes that you find peace, and always have John in your heart... I know I will always have him with me!
