Outer Limits question

Wednesday morning I caught one of my favorite Outer Limits on This TV.... the 1963 KXKVI episode starring Cliff Robertson as an FM station CE. Does anyone
know what site was used for this show? It looks like it was a TV transmitter somewhere in the SW US that had and FM with studios in a building also on the hilltop. The FM console was stereo as you could see the stereo action on the VU meters. Tower was a self supporter with what looked like a pole mount or slot antenna at the top identical to the old WLLH-FM tower in Andover, Mass. I remember another in Louisville with many more across the country. The call letters on the building were covered up. There were very quick shots of what may have possibly been a Raytheon transmitter but it went by too fast, when the episode airs again I will DVR it.

The station in question is the site of 98.7 in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills to be exact, now known as KYSR-FM (Star 98.7).

For many years, the station was known as KJQI (K-Joy). I believe, but I'm not sure, that the call letters of the station when that Outer Limits episode was filmed were KCBH. If I'm wrong, someone will gladly correct me.

The station is now a property of Clear Channel and broadcasts with the other CCLA properties out of a high rise in Burbank.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the tower site is there any longer.

I have been to the site. The immediate neighborhood, being the homes to many celebrities and such, is about as upscale as it gets, and the views of both the San Fernando Valley to the north, and the L.A. basin to the south are incredible.

These two posts are a great example of why I read these Boards. There is such a wealth of knowledge and background from you folks who post on here and for a guy like me who just loves to read about "the industry" it is all so interesting. Some of the stories and experiences posted here are so great.

This is very important and true. I have breathed and thought and studied rf and all e-related fileds for 45 years but never went into the rf biz.
This is the newspaper and after-work watering hole for those who live in whatever is "Aether".

I have lived to see the concept of Aether or Ether redeemed by modern physics!

Every single thing behaves in wave theory. Waves can only propogate IN something, and that's pretty much
inside the known universe as constructed by collective thought. That's why Radio-Info rocks.

Very true. That's great info. I remember that episode well.

I remember it too. I was just a little squirt at the time. He went over to the transmitter and turned a knob and increased the station's power. I thought at the time, HE CAN'T DO THAT! I never realized it was a FM station. I guess I just took it for granted it was AM.

Pleased to report the tower is still very much there, and the building, too:

(scroll to the bottom!)

The building has been home to various Clear Channel engineers over the years, and the tower is still used by 98.7 (now KYSR) and KCRW 89.9. KYSR can't move up to Mount Wilson because of spacing issues to several other SoCal FM signals.
