Outlaw Dave?

Just looked at his website and it says "Elvis has left the building" ..... Until May 3, 2007.

Whats up with that, I can't wait, anybody got any ideas where he is going? :D ;D

May 3rd is obviously the end of his non-compete with Cumulus. If he does show up back here in Houston, it is most likely with Cox. He had been in contact with them before he landed at KIOL in May '05. Would you believe he could go country? Hey, it happened to Moby! Anyway, wait 'til May.

My prediction is that by then Pointless will have flipped to active rock and Outlaw Dave will feel right at home.

Since Cox is a cookie cutter operation, they should bring the 99.5 KISS cutter to KHPT. OD would be a great fit and be on a good signal.

Which, believe it or not, was in the works. The hold up was that Cox wanted to wait until they had done extensive research on whether or not to format 106.9 as Classic Rock or Active Rock, and wouldn't pull the trigger on the Point until that research was complete. The timetable for that to be completed was December '05 or January '06. Neither Dave, nor Wendy could afford to be out of work that long (as Wendy was looking to get off of the CC payroll at the time). Of course Cumulus had KRWP, which they knew could not compete with KBXX or KMJQ, even on the newly acquired 103.7, and jumped on the rock format as soon as they could. Thus Rock 97.5 was born.

Moby was always a rock-a-billy type even back in his 97 and 101 days (yeah Baby)....him morphing into Country was no surprise...he didnt do well in the rock end....but was more suited for modern country....Dave, though, is NOT...

Having "worked" with Outlaw Dave, I don't care whether he re-surfaces at another station or from the middle of Buffalo Bayou, the man is the same: a human scum-bag toward others.

He treats his co-workers like trash and has an ego that is, shall we say, over-sized for his particular skill-set.

Those who mourn his departure from current Houston radio have never, obviously, had to work with this cretin; those of us who have endured his toxic temper-tantrums on an almost daily basis empathize with his future fellow employees.

Condolences to whoever hires him. :-[

sounds likes somebody had a little boy crush that wasn't reciprocated!

i've worked with outlaw dave and he may have been a smart ass, but he was always professional.Never saw a tantrum, if anything ,he always seemed patient .And he really seemed to care about the listeners and the clients.
Go to his website and look at all the chariable things he accomplished last year www.outlawnation.us Sure alot of that is station orchestrated but without his passion and his listeners passion would any of that been accomplished ? Not with half a stick !

i nominate the "firing of outlaw dave" as the worst thing to happen to houston radio in 2006 !

I'm always surprised at the number of people that talk about an active rock station coming to Houston. As nice as it would be, it's not going to happen. The format is dead -- if that wasn't the case, KLOL wouldn't have flipped two years ago and 103.7 would have better coverage and ratings.

Believe me, I understand. While y'all keep dreaming of an active rock station, I'll keep dreaming of a Triple A station in Houston -- even something that slightly resembles it. They're both long-shots (although you have a little more hope to have your format than I have for mine...)

Active rock is not DEAD! Boring Classic Rock Yes, Active No. If it were dead KISS in San Antonio wouldn't be ranked #3. KLOL flipped because the playlist sucked. If they'd have tweaked the playlist, we'd be talking about MEGA 93.7 right now. 103.7 sucks because they are resurecting the pre-flip KLOL instead of the kick ass early/mid 90's KLOL. As for the signal, it's a rimshot, not much they can do about that.

Triple A? Am I missing something here? Everytime I tune into the MIX they play all this stuff you whinos want. Natasha Bedingfield, John Mayer, The Frey, KT Tunstall, etc.

You must be joking. The Mix is nothing like an AAA station. It would be like me saying that KIOL is an "active rock" station in its current incarnation.

No kidding! Just because a station shares a handful of artists with another format does not mean it's the same format. AAA also includes elements of classic rock, classic and new alternative, "coffeehouse music", and blues. Before you bag on a format, take a minute to make sure you know what you're talking about. There are plenty of examples of AAA stations in the "What Houston Wants" thread.

He did have the cutest painted toenails one day in the elevator that you could plainly see because he was wearing those slip on like things for shoes. Their proper name escapes me. He's quite the egomaniac and arrogant. But who amongst is all good or all bad. OD's worst trait was that he thought being on the radio made him important.

How about another "used to work with Dave" tale: Montrose street fair was in full swing. Dave and some [EDIT] were sitting in the 101 lobby, swilling down beers, in their flipflops and nasty shorts/filthy t-shirts. 101 clients and listeners were coming through the lobby. Dave leans over as a group goes through and throws up in a waste-basket. Dave bellows at several listeners "what the f*** you looking at"? Class, Dave, pure class. ::)

[EDIT-offensive content]

Dave is a good announcer, better than most of you that frequent this board. Nothing particularly interesting or insightful to say but he did cut through to some. Thats a better career, in radio, than most of us/you can expect. I remember him almost crying with anger at the Limp Bizkit show when Whip was picking on him on the air. He'd a killed Whip. Good times.

Thanks, again, Dave

Dave wouldn't have killed Whip... Dave would have had someone else do it. He talked a lot... but it was just talk.

I never worked with Dave...However, I was backstage at a Van Halen show ( the worst VH with Gary Cherone ) at the Woodlands... While we were waiting for the band to come out for the Meet and Greet, some guy was GUZZLING Coors Light and making obnoxious comments about the band and those waiting to see them... I'm thinking "who is this idiot"? Then someone says "shut up, Dave"....

Aw yes...the drunk making the comments was Outlaw Dave, who was with the station that was sponsoring the event.

He was an OK rock jock...But it stops there.

That's funny... but I would have to agree with Dave on that one... horrible Halen... horrible.
