Outlaw Dave?

Just checking to see if anyone has heard what and where Outlaw Dave is going in May?

I'm wondering if anything is still in the works. His website used to say, "Elvis has left the building, until May 3, 2007" Now it just says, "Elvis has left the building". I wonder if something was in the works and fell through.

It appears that the website has also left the building.

The site is back up and has this post:

"WHERE WILL OUTLAW DAVE END UP ?

A:      " WHAT'S THE POINT "

B:      " CATCH THE BUZZ "

C:      " PLAYING THE HITS "

D:      " STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW "

E:      " GET SIRIUS ! "

inquiring minds want to know, stay tuned to find out"

It should read

"WHERE WILL OUTLAW DAVE END UP ?

A: " WHAT'S THE POINT? NOBODY CARES BUT DAVE"

B: " CATCH THE BUZZ SO YOU WON'T FEEL IT WHEN DAVE THROWS YOU UNDER THE BUS"

C: " PLAYING THE HITS, [EDIT]"

D: " STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW TO HELL ON HIS JUDGEMENT DAY" (OR DID YOU FORGET THAT'S COMING?)

E: " GET SIRIUS CAUSE DAVE WANTS TO CHASE HOWERD STERN ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER WASHED UP, EGOMANIAC, WANNABE ROCK STAR, LOOSER "

inquiring minds don't really want to know, they stay tuned to something else"

I think the Arrow and the Buzz are out, If CC had still wanted Dave they would've offered him a job when 101 flipped. I doubt Serius, don't they not have DJs only radio shows? I wouldn't consider Dave's drivetime to be a true radio show. K-Hits possibly, but I don't really see him fitting in with the format. Pointless, only if a format change is in the works.

K-hits doesn't seem all that far fetched, when you know that he is very good friends with a few people at the station.

Y'know, a year ago who would've believed Scott Sparks would be over there?

So he's an "Outlaw" on the radio. William Shatner is "Captain Kirk" on tv! You probably dont want to pretend to be your on-air persona out on the street if that character is just about to burst from his own coolness.

Im not saying go corporate, but, you know, maybe there's a time to stop playing teen rebel. Its definitely time to stop acting like a rock star. The truth is, none of us are rock stars. We're announcers. Big freakin deal.

Sure, we have special talents. Those in more cumbersome formats are especially talented, maintaining a personality, while appeasing numerous elements and boundries. Any Jock can get a Howard Stern wig and a cool frown, talk like we just smoked a pack of Camels, and pull it off. "Hello, Teresa...huh huh ... are you touching yourself right now?... " Two minute or more lounge act into a stopset? ...I could do that. So could most of you.

Not to mention networking is a little different in our biz these days. There's not much market for ego anymore. You especially want to be nice at remotes. Im sorry, for those of you who are fans, but I've heard stories, and seen his rudeness in person. We push buttons & talk on the radio. So freakin what?

That's funny. I was thinking the same thing before I read your post. It's time to move on, for sure. He had it once, but the market isn't there anymore and neither is the vehicle; the wheels fell off that pitiful excuse for a heritage rocker redux. Time for the Outlaw to take up tending bar or overhauling Harleys.

Hold up. I have NEVER seen him be needlessly rude to a true listener (not some smart @ss bent upon a challenge) at a remote within the last several years. Not saying how, but I would know---and I'd be the first to criticize, if I could do so legitimately. That's why decades-long-listeners are loyal to the OD brand. You might hate the way he treated you in the break room or at the corporate Christmas party, but he brings in clients and he does appreciate his listeners, or at least he makes them feel that way. You may have a personal grudge, but I give credit where it's due.

--no grudge here, just my honest observation. I'm sorry if this is your friend; Im just looking at it from a team-building standpoint.

Nope, not a friend, but I don't get bent out of shape about anything that anybody called Outlaw Anything says off the air. I just disagree with your personal observation, I guess. Mine is that he works his tail off in the market to build and retain listener loyalty and that he does more than his fair share of bringing in client revenue. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, but it bugs me when people allow their anger to minimize someone's accomplishments. Some of the best lessons I've ever learned have come from arrogant jerks. If I let my feelings get hurt, I'd have never have lasted through my first day at my first station.

Again, this has nothing with "anger" or "grudge." Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm contageously happy, not to mention really busy.

I agree with you about how "You can learn a lot from an A***H****." I have learned much from A**H****s . Usually, within months after I finish working for an A**H****, I've already forgiven them, and will even keep in touch.

I've also been fortunate to work with folks who are both famous & classy. H&H are the first to come to mind.

I agree with you about H&H. Every Christmas, they would dig in their pockets and give me a very healthy bonus. I was proud to work for them and enjoy the time of double digits winning the morning show by being Number 1 and defeating everybody in town. We would work on Christmas. One year, Fred would be on and the next year it would be Randy. Eventually, I was allowed to do the Christmas show by myself, playing the H&H comedy routines of that particular time. One year, Tom Fontaine and I did the Christmas show. It's on cassette....somewhere in the midst of all my radio junk, and I got a lot of it.

I'm proud to say that I worked for H&H for about 10 years. Without a doubt, they were the best.
