P-G Reports CBS Staff Cuts, Including Ryan Mill

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08302/923510-80.stm

Michael Young states cuts are "about realigning structure to more effectively operate our stations in today's environment" and article says cuts are "in sales, administration, promotions, program management and production". Reporter confirmed Ryan Mill was one of the people let go.

Comments?

-- Among other things, sounds like we're perhaps making balance sheet ratios look better for a potential sale.

-- I assume Keith Clark remains and manages the FM while the "loaner" from WINS works on KDKA (which perhaps is headed for a WINS format?)

Interesting theory on making KDKA 24/7 news. Especially with Metro Networks (from sister Westwood One) closing operations in Pittsburgh (your Metro Traffic will soon be coming from Philly--a source I used to work with tells me that all that will be left will be someone working at the PennDOT information center). I would love a strong radio news presence in Pittsburgh, ala WINS or even ala WBZ (news 5a-8p, then local talk). KQV doesn't quite cut it for me in terms of its news delivery (or, for that matter, the clock it uses).

As for the FM stations. . . I wouldn't mind owning B-94. . . let's take up a collection, hold a bake sale, and do a silent auction. Maybe if everyone in Allegheny County (and, let's include Cranberry. . . why not?) contributes a dollar, we could make B-94 the ultimate community station!! (Then, we'd have to write on this board, tearing ourselves apart. . .) ;D

Obviously you hate to hear anyone losing their jobs.

Especially sales- I find that somewhat surprising.

And a bit unfair. Can you imagine trying to sell K-Rock?

And I was a K-Rock fan! But sheesh! Can you imagine?

"Well, it's a rock station. Except for the majority of the day, when it's a talk station. And we've had three morning guys."

Sorry, I'm not from around WPA, but here since 1999. This 24/7 news you're talking about, would it also be like KYW in Philadelphia for an example? If so, I'm all for it.

KQV has such a po0r signal even in Sq.Hill that it not a good example of anything. I think a WINS like format would be great and they could do it on 1010 in Tampa too. Sorry Paulie ::)

And today, 10-year veteran producer and news editor Jim Amato and production director Dennis Elliot ar eout at KDKA:

We should not assume that any stations are going to be sold anytime in the near future until the credit markets open up again.

I agree with other speculation that Keith clark will program the B. He apparently has a CHR/urban programming background.

Who in this credit market is going to write a check for $100 million for a radio station? Or even $50 million? There are people interested in selling and others willing to buy but in a market where banks are barely willing to loan money to other banks how are you going to get that deal done?

CBS is cutting to the bare bones and trying to ride the storm out. They probably aren't done here yet. Will automate one more shift on Y108 before the end of the year.

That's the same Dennis from the Q, I know I'm not the only one that remembers him when he did weekends on 13Q. Yet in Jeff Roteman's 13Q page he isn't seen among the photos of that station's ex-jocks.

Dennis is not listed for 13Q on his 440 satisfaction listing.

I remember Dennis Waters from 13Q and Dennis Elliot from WPEZ.

If Dennis E. worked at 1320, could it have been later in the AC years between CHR 13Q and Music of Your Life WJAS?
