P!nk on 92.9

(response to Buddy): I saw Mel Tillis on a national talk show when the Kenny Rogers cover was on the charts. He told this long story about how he and his wife could hear this couple yelling in a nearby house as the inspiration for the song. They went to break, and when they returned, he admitted he made the story up.

I heard "Purple Rain" by Prince on 92.9 yesterday.  First time I have heard them play anything by him other than "1999."  They obviously played only the single mix, that fades out soon after the vocals the vocals are over.  I would have been especially surprised if they had played that eight-minute monstrosity from the album (complete with that LONG guitar solo at the end!).

Then there was Ruby! Remember "Ruby, don't take your love to town!?

If my memory serves me right......he shot her for 'taking her love to town.' All she had to do was turn around.

And as we learned from Mr. Rogers, love will turn you around...

In the very few times I heard Delilah, she has played "Into the Night" by Benny Mardones. Chasing jailbait, or I have been missing song's meaning all these years?

"She's just sixteen years old
Leave her alone, they say..."

How about Steely Dan's "Hey Nineteen"? Same thing?

FYI - I Googled "38 Special" "Second Chance" "controversy" and could not locate anything suggesting such a backlash against the song due to its content.

Also looked up Wikipedia, but apparently, the song does not have an entry there.

If they can play Pink and Prince and even .38 Special, then they should be playing "Use Somebody"
by Kings of Leon. They're a local band and it's a big hit...there's nothing "hard rock" about the
song. It just shows the station has no idea how to run their station (unless they have played
it but I doubt it) but I'm sure they will play it when or if some stupid exec gives the song
the green light. Probably won't happen until 2017.

Well, at least a 19-year-old is of "legal" age.

nope: that's just about getting older (and being around those damn fool kids)

I beg to differ with ya on Mix having "no idea how to run their station" --- been top rated
longer any other station in the past decade.

What station here is "doing it right or better?"

I'll rephrase that...they know what they're doing but I don't like what they're doing. They bore
me to tears. They should pick up the pace a little. If I were
in charge of the station they'd drop to 20th place probably! But at least there'd be
no Delilah, John Tesh, or tired same old same old every day.

That's because there's nothing to it.

The real "controversy" here is among 38 Special fans, who didn't like "Second Chance" because it didn't "rock" like so many of their other hits.  Max Carl (not Donnie Van Zant) was the lead singer on it, and VanZant isn't even listed as a co-writer on the song.  But at least it was still a mid-tempo song, and 38 Special didn't go the "power ballad" route like so many other so-called "rock" bands did.

But "Second Chance" was still a #1 AC hit, so AC stations really ought to give it a "second chance."

Just make sure that Samson doesn't get a hair cut!

Wink not that this matters much..but where did the cute little avatars go ? and get replaced by the "word" describing the intended thingie ?? i kinda liked the cheesy faces options..

The new "Samson" show would be new home for old Rock at 105.9 callers. "Hey Samson, I just wanna let you know about the new waitress workin' at Hooters. Yeah, may-han, she is a cute thang. I wanna ask her out. What should I do?"

What should I do?"..first thang man..shine up them crome reverse wheels on the 84 trams am...make sure the T tops got the silicone on them in case it rains..and then head out to percy priest for the sub marine races..rewind the skinnard cassette to hit free bird at the right moment..then when your headed for home plate...punch up paradise by the dashboard lights...o haell yea maayun...uuuggghh..ohh..whatya mean..it's a bad week!????

Agreed, I miss those, too.

If the Samson show is too politically incorrect, no one will carry it.  But if "Second Chance" were politically incorrect (as some here have suggested), I never would have heard Delilah playing it.

Another thought, why don't Delilah callers ever ask her to play a specific song for them?  Can they not think for themselves?  Granted, Delilah is pretty good at picking out stuff for her listeners, but every once in a while, I would like for a listener to get specific.

At least, Delilah doesn't play "You're Still the One" (Shania, not Orleans) as much anymore.  Ever since Shania and her "mutt" split up, that song now rings hollow for many listeners, as it does for me.  And Delilah used to play the crap out of it!
