rbrucecarter5 said:As far as Mexican radio is concerned, I do listen to some of the music on 620 and 780, I find it really different and good. Of course I don't understand a word. I have a feeling the radio coming from Mexico is a lot different from what I hear on 850, which when I tune across is more of a mariachi band or something.
620, while a Mexican station, is a copy of a format "invented" in the U.S.A. in 2000 and first programmed on KRCD/KRCV in the LA market. It has been widely imitated in many US markets. It has also been programmed on several stations in Mexico along the US border because those stations principally market and sell in the US.
However, that format you hear on 620 is not programmed elsewhere in Mexico as its appeal tends to be older and to lower income levels, making it non-viable commercially.
So the format you think is "good" Mexican radio is actually a US format, not a Mexican one.
And the format on KEYH is one that is on perhaps 10% of all stations in Mexico... "grupera". KEYH simply does a different blend than what KTJM and KLTN and several other FMs in Houston do.
So, if you are going to criticize formats it might be a good idea to find out about them first, as you come off as being prejudiced when I think you simply have a lack of information.
